Best snake on wheels

Based on shopping, reviews, and limited budget we purchased this unit since we like everything on wheels. Remember: You get what you pay for. Purchase this item if you are “mechanically-inclined” and know how to use a soldering iron. Be aware that shippers treat things poorly. On delivery, we found the reel (quite heavy) had fallen off its bearings. The threads on the single metric bolt holding the reel on the bearings had stripped (i.e. cheap metal in bolt), causing the reel to rest on the frame structure. We visited Home Depot and purchased a replacement metric bolt the same size. The reel works fine now. We also found, on delivery, that the “crank” handle had broken off (needs to be welded back on), and channel 2 was dead (need to re-solder XLR plug). The manufacturer has solved the frame support problem mentioned in previous posts: We have heavy duty wheels with brakes, and a nice support structure. All XLR plugs are labeled (1-24, A-D), but they are still not grouped so we did our own grouping with small, colored cable ties. Summary: If you’re willing to [possibly] fix a couple things, this is a cost-effective purchase. We love the convenience of “snake-on-a-reel”.

Great Idea...Quality so so...

We purchased this to get our sound guy out front and keep him within the 100' distance. Farther than that is un-necessary. The reel is a wonderful idea but the quality in this product needs some attention. The first one we ordered had a broken axle strap. The second one came with no problem. The strap the axle is mounted to is made of some kind of pot metal. Not steel. It bends real easy from the weight of the reel, and I could see it would eventually breal like the first. I think the first one we received was dropped. I added 2 stainless steel rollers as wide as the reel from a conveyor, mounted to welded brackets, to take the weight of the reel. The unit now works wonderful. Too bad I had to make the modification, as I feel it should have had the rollers from the start. A little more design into this and it would be a killer item to have. I suspect after adding the rollers, the unit could handle another 50 foot od snake with no problem. All in all, a great idea, but needs a little more attention to construction so one doesn't have to modify it to make it work or last. I would buy one again if needed, and then be happier with the modification, as it is definetely needed to carry the weight of the reel.

Best bang for the buck... 24 channel snakes get expensive, plus the XLR sends, and it rolls up and has wheels!! Nice deal.

Cables not grouped, no strain relief at pigtail

No color groupings. Nothing to hold up pigtail end! Not enough cable spread at cable end. Reel is well made. Be aware that all shields are commoned at real end, should be snipped or will have possible loop problems. Connectors are ok. Casters are nice.
