These are simple and great rings that do what they're supposed to.

The Evans rings are of the same quality but twice as wide, muffling the drum more (which can be good or bad) but are slightly more prone to rattle with long decaying floor toms, which is what I use these for. These still rattled a little but it's not really noticeable, they do their job well.

If you have die-cast hoops like I do, they are known to muffle a bit as it is, and (arguably) the best sounding drums aren't muffled at all - so I say if you have to muffle, use these so you won't over kill it.. especially with die cast.

But yeah, try and get it sounding good without muffling rings first (tuning, changing heads, etc). These just help the sound to decay a bit smoother/faster.

For this price, I got a great tom sound. My toms were ok, and the moongels were barely cutting it. They were falling off etc... These dont fit on the bottom of my drum, so i just simply lay them on top of the head-fine sound, some rattling but not noticeable. AWESOME AWESOME recorded sound.

These studio rings work wonders. My toms sounded like crap when I first bought my kit. I tried those evans emad dampeners, and then the moongels. But then I said I would try the studio rings. They are the best things in the world to happen to drums. They make the mounted toms sing, and the floor toms growl. They allow the drums to ring, but they have that "sound" about them. I suggest you get them. One problem with them is, they will fall all here and there (my 10" tom mostly), but other than that, they are a great investment.
