Very quiet and full of Meat

I have been using a set of these on my Jazz bass for 4 years now. They are great if you want to increase the low end possibilities. Also they allow you to get that great mid growl from the bridge pickup without hum. They can sound very vitagey if you EQ your amp correctly cutting the bass a bit, or you can sound very modern by allowing the bass to come straight through. The only problem is they are prone to microphonics if they are installed wrong. They are potted in epoxy, so if the screws are screwed in unevenly in such a way to flex the pickup body it will break the internal epoxy causing it to become microphonic. SD has very good customer service however. They sent me replacement pickups without question.

I'm very pleased with my active pickups, they made my fender bass come alive. I had to take a chance on the placement of the battery, it seems nobody could answer that, but there is room under the new pots. Sounds great and it was worth it.
