Guitarist since 77

I had been looking for that fat 70's classic heavy rock sound forever. I always heard it on the old recordings, but never could nail it on my recordings. Big fat mids, countoured bottom end, and that magical "ffff" sounding peak in the upper frequencies. What I was hearing the whole time were these Greenbacks. One word of warning however.. I replaced my Celestion K-85's with these and I nailed the sound I wanted, but If you like a bright sound (which the k-85's are noted for), you may be very surprised on how much more high end eq you need to compensate for the difference. But, I love the sound of these things and recommend them to all of you old school guitar rock folks like me.

I swapped out original speaker in my Fender Blues Junior. It's amazing to see the difference a speaker makes. The Blues Jr. was fine for cleans but besides that not much else. Now I have a flexible amp. I get great distortion now, and the cleans are smoother. Best of all, you can put some bite on the cleans and get a nice bark on your tone. Recommend for any Blues Jr. Owner.

The Difference In Tone

I put one of these into my Vox AC15 and am apalled and what a huge difference it's made in my tone. Everything sounds smoother and fuller with no compromise as far as bass, mids, or treble is concerned. I use a MIM Telecaster with Texas special pickups, and a good deal of effects.

I play a Jackson RR1 via Marshall TSL-60 w/1960TV cabinet, which contains four of these G12M's. I easily claim the title of "best sounding rig" in Madison, WI with this setup. I've played my Jackson thru some other amps, and it gets a great sound, but nothling like the Marshall. If you want the best possible sound, this is it!

I've used greenbacks for 20+ years. I love vintage 30's for some uses, but if I could only use one type of speaker, there would be no contest- the greenbacks make your amp come alive. I've tried many other speakers, including other celestions, eminence, modern and vintage, and while many were very useable and some cool for one particular sound, I always returned to the greenbacks. When the manufacturer describes these as the "60's tone" it sounds like they're not versatile- absolutely not true, they sound like god through my dual rectifier as well as my VHT ultralead, mark 4, JCM 800, '65 twin, and various preamp/power amp configurations. When used with my active EMG's, jem, strat dlx or LP custom, the EQ range/emphasis and the tasty breakup of these speakers is always dead on. The only concern I have is that these lower wattage speakers don't handle the lows that you get with a 7 string or extreme detuning at high volumes (my only use of V30's). I have no problems tuning down to D, but then I never was a fan of crazy high stage db's. Listen to the gods of tone-Van Halen, Eric Johnson, Hendrix, a big part of their sound is the greenback. If you can't tell , I love these speakers, they can make an ok amp sound good and a good amp amazing.
