Worst strings I've ever used.

I bought these strings because they're cheap, now I see why. When I got the strings I put them on and was disapointed right of the bat. These strings were bright, but it was that bad kind of bright where it had a very toneless clanking. Once broken in these strings sounded very bad, (That's the only way I can describe the tone). Then within about 1 WEEK, they died leaving behind a trail of dull, horrid, uneven tone. I'd skip these if I were you.

I typically use DR strings, but seeing as I was on a budget I had to opt for the XLs this change. I used them when I first started playing, which was a good 11 years ago, so I'd forgotten how bright they are. They're great for slap and really make higher range notes shine, but for my playing style they're too bright. That's not to say they're bad strings, they're really good!

As a string they're the best bang for the buck out there. The life is pretty good (somewhere between GHS and DR) and they play smooth, but the flipside to this is the string slide ring is more pronounced than Rotosound and DR rounds, but not as bad as Ernie Ball or GHS.

If you're into slap or higher range playing then I would definitely recommend these strings.

This strings have been with me since I started wich was about 5 years ago. I have used Ernie balls in an in-between cause I couldnt find these in the store and I regreted every second of it. This string last, don't break and keep the tone for a very long time! There is no better offer out there!

I've tried other strings before, but so far nothing compared to the EXL 170's. I bought my first set years ago for my Gibson Eb0 bass, and the sound difference was noticeable from the get go. Normally you would end up paying a good deal for strings of this quality, but the d'addario strings are an awesome value. My favorite part about these strings is that they hold their sound for a long time before needing replacement, and they feel really smooth. I've tried several brands, but these are the only strings that I'm putting on my gibson sg eb0 or my yamaha rbx374 from now on. For me, no other string will do. I've never had an issue with snapping, or getting any dead strings out of the package. I am a customer for life.

These replaced the stock strings on my MM Sting Ray as well as my Ric. They are fuller in sound, but a bit more hard to bend. I also noticed a bit more bow in the basses necks, but this can be adjusted. Their tone is muce more twangy. A very good string, and for the price for a twin pak...Great!
