You just can't go wrong with these strings, they are a little expensive and do tend to flake but man they are nice on the fingers and also look great. I have tried many brands of strings over the years and the DR black beauties by far have been the best sounding strings I have found.

DR Black Beuties have long been my favort strings to use. They sound great on my Fender and lasted alot longer then I would have expected. They have a wonderfull tone and look great for metal.

The downsides to these are that they cost more then a pretty penny. You will be spending alot on these if you deside to make them you standard set. Another downside is the black coating (not the latex itself but the colouring) will rub off after some amount of playing and leave black flecks on you bass. There real easy to come off won't leave any unstightly marks on your bass.

I really love the strings. Well, I -wish- I could love them. They've got the best sound out of any strings I've ever put on my bass. I use an Epiphone SG short scale, and I've put two different sets on my bass. The first set, the top string broke one night at practice after about a month, and the second set...the top string broke again in the middle of a show less than a week after I bought them. So obviously, DR's failing in the quality section.

Perfect for a Thunderbird

I use the DR Black Beauties exclusively on my Gibson Thunderbird and Gibson Blackbird (Nikki Sixx bass). Everyone talks about how these retain their brightness and "newness" - which is why I was hesitant to use them. I prefer a more round, warm, and deep tone. However, the DR Black Beauties "warmed up" rather quickly and produce a very nice, dark, deep tone. The mahogany wood really works well with these strings to produce a great acoustic ressonance, which even sounds "bassy" unplugged. I've had other strings (GHS, D'Addario, etc...) on my T'Birds, but these sound the deepest. They do tend to develop the silver areas where your fingers contact the strings the most, usually after about 3 shows, but the tone only gets better with age, and I dont replace them until they break. They also look really cool with the black hardware on the T-birds - a very custom look.
