Dean Markley GoldPhos Alchemy strings use pre-tuned mandolin wire cores and Diamond Drawn outer wraps electroplated with the exclusive MC394K Bright-Coat compound, an aerospace-technology derived substance with oustanding tonal response and durability.

"The GoldPhos are beautiful-sounding, with a warm and evenly nice rounded tonal projection with a very full-on sound. These work particularly well in my studio settings, as there is not much EQ to add or take away due to the character-landscape type of sound that they offer. They have a very balanced and even feel about them. Again - with total voicing separation, and their quality of sound is total Inspiration..!!" - Amrit Sond, U.K.

I don't usually use coated expensive strings like these, but I decided to give them a try, and was very surprised by how much I liked the sound. They sound is very bright, and rich. I have been using mine for more than a month, and they still sound great. They definitely last a lot longer than all kinds of D'Adarios, or Ernie Balls. I tried Ernie Ball Silk 'n Steel, but didn't like them. These sound much brighter, and punchy. I think I'll be sticking with these for whille. I haven't tried Elixirs, but they're a little bit more expensive, and I didn't seem to be very impressed by Elixirs on bass. They sound good live, but in the studio, I think they have a bit of a plastic kind of sound. Must be because of the polymer coating.

These coated strings are promised to have an increased life. After the 3rd month that I had these om my guitar they still looked new, However their tone became very dead and dull. These strings do have a very good sound though when new. My advice to you is to just buy regular Dean Markley's and save yourself a few bucks.

I prefer the sound of higher guage strings but I play cleaner with 11's. These strings sound rich and warm even in a light gauge. As a bonus they look very cool on my black Ovation Elite T.

12's sound better then 11's but I play cleaner with a lighter gaugue string. Finally I can have my cake and eat it to. These strings have a rich warm sound usually assoicated with thicker strings. I can now finger pick and play those streach chords with ease without compromising the tone. Also the gold strings look very cool.
