I used this pickup with my favorite acoustic guitar for years. I played lots of small venue gigs, and the sound from this pickup was always a very nice reproduction of the sound from my guitar. I placed the pickup as high in the tone hole as I could, and the sound was great, without volume problems. I also recorded with this, and had no complaints. It did everything I ever needed it to do. Buy this one (the black colored one, not the natural colored one)!

When I place it even with the sound hole on my 1985 Ibanez v302 12 string strung with 6 strings it is very clear, sounds as if mic'd, very clean sound. My Yamaha 2006 FG 700S for some reason doesn't sound as clear, for some reason. Both guitars have an excellent acoustic tone on their own.

Great Sound - Plenty of Juice

For those who are experiencing "weak output", raise the pickup so it is closer to your strings. If it is flush to the soundboard you won't hear a thing. Mine sounds great! I am trying to figure out a mod so I can adjust the height more acurately but I would recommend this product.

Good live, sucks in the studio.

I bought this at a local store, and it sounds great live. It sounds amazing, even. But I bought it in order to record at home, and for recording, it is ridiculously horrible. It is really muddy sounding, and I went through a preamp, as well as an EQ. Even with EQ's, it sounded like a badly recorded electric guitar. Also, when recording it pickups a lot of background noise. I'm taking it back tomorrow and getting my money back.

But again, I can't stress, live it sounds amazing. I have no clue what the deal is, but thats it.

Avoid this pickup

Do not buy this pickup if you plan on using it for anything more than at home practice. First, to be able to hear your guitar through the amp, it must be cranked waaaaaaay up. Now you can hear your guitar, amidst a lot of fuzz and unnessesary noise. The bass and trebel adjustment is nice, but if you are planning on jamming with other instruments or a drummer, avoid this pickup like the plague.
