The DiMarzio DP159 Evolution Bridge Pickup is a hefty humbucker designed for maximum impact and power. The Evolution pickup's sound is tight, aggressive, and loud. The DP159 Evolution incorporates DiMarzio's patented dual-resonance coil configuration that senses more harmonic overtones than ordinary humbuckers. Perfect for solos that really cut through. Low notes are very tight, and the highs have a lot of presence. DiMarzio designed the DP159 pickup for Steve's Ibanez Jems, but it can add a lot of punch and definition to Les Paul and similar set-neck guitars - even the lowest bass notes really jump out of the amp, and feedback occurs easily with a wide range of harmonic overtones.

All subtle and arcane guitar talk aside, the major determinate of your tone is your pickup. Go for this one and you'll see what we mean. Put it in the cart.

DiMarzio DP159 Evolution Bridge Pickup Specifications:

LOUD!
Posted by oldschool from oregon on Oct 22, 2009

These pickups are LOUD and clear. They have a lttle less output than a ditortion but they are louder....i think its a stronger magnet with less windings...or vice versa. Either way you will get a cleaner lead tone with this pup. I used to load all my ash strats with DP-100's(distortions)...i liked the rythem and harmoinics tone but the lead tone was too grainy. I put one of these in my ash strats and it was too bright. I had an old basswod body lying around so i slaped a neck on and threw this pup in....WOW! AWESOME TONE! It is an amazing lead pickup...very clear and loud.If you wana clean up your chops slap this baby in...it will make you a better player! Its best in warmer sounding boddies...mahog,basswood, alder.

I had the chrome pickup put into my Epiphone Les Paul and this this absolutely screams! It is so versatile, you can get any tone you want out of this. My dad comes over to my house to play blues, and when he isn't there i play metal, and this pickup handles it all. Clear highs and thumping lows with a nice smooth middle, you can do anything you want with this. Highly recommended. I will be purchasing the Evolution Neck pickup soon because i am so impressed with this.

LesPaul Standard - VM 50W head w/Marshall 1960a cab. there probably isn't a better pu out there if like Slash or Mick Ronson. It has the medium/high output & clarity of a Bill Lawrence L500XL but warmer than the L500XL imo.

The Best!!!

I honestly thought DiMarzio was just for these shredders that do nothing but play tons of notes as fast as possible and had very little use for a regular guitar player like myself... I was wrong. I decided to try this out along with a Humbucker from Hell in my Epiphone SG because this is the setup used by Alex Skolnick. WOW! This thing is great for rhythms and the best for leads. Its a lot like an EMG when playing metal but is more responive to solos at lower volumes, and sounds just as good when cranked up. Another impressive thing is that as good as it is for metal, unlike EMG's it can handle blues and rock very well. It can handle everything from glassy cleans, blues, light to hard rock, and all out METAL!!! Its so great lets just say that now my Prophecy SG is collecting dust!

Not good for metal

I play metal and use heavy strings (10-60,11-70) I tune down standard D and C as well as drop C. I put this in my Drop and standard C guitar, not impressed. It gets alright harmonics but it just doesn't have enough power for me. I switch from my Flying V with X2N's in the bridge and neck and there's a huge different in output and tonality. It's dialed in with too much mids and not enough bass. The sustain isn't very good. I suppose that if you play more than one genre of music than this pickup would work, but it's not good for metal. On the other hand, the D activator and X2N series are great for metal and I highly recommend them. You can't go wrong with rails.
