DiMarzio created the Breed Neck Pickup in response to a request from Steve Vai for a fat, classic humbucker sound to contrast with the hotter, screaming Evolution-equipped guitars. The neck pickup is a bit louder and fatter-sounding than the PAF Pro pickups that Steve used on his earliest Jem guitars. Harmonics are easy to get, and 4-conductor wiring coil enables cool "notch tone" coil-splitting.

The guitar part is recommended for the neck position on bolt-on trem guitars and bridge position on set-neck fixed-bridge instruments.

As a neck pickup, the Breed has more than enough power to balance with high-output bridge pickups: it will work with the Tone Zone, Super Distortion and Evolution as well as The Breed bridge model. In the bridge position, it has a very warm, hot PAF tone-really smooth, with nice harmonics.

I put one of these in the neck of, believe it or not, an Artcore along with an EVO2 in the bridge. This pick up flows out in color, so sweet you could almost taste it. Zero noise, just perfect Satriani-esq brilliance. Kind of gives off a PRS clean sound. I took the EVO out, that was a waste of time and money and put in my new absolute favorite pickup. Seth Lover. Phenomenal!

I have a Schecter C1+ and i wanted to change my stock pick ups. I wanted something warm and buttery for the neck so i checked it out, liked it and bought it. Its loud and warm with great sustain. Solos are thick, warm, smooth and buttery. You can get great sustain from it. Perfect for blues. This pick up is great! Very responsive and warm.

Great with an Evolution Bridge

Got this guy off ebay and in an Ibanez S620EXQM along with an Evolution bridge. I love the combo. Harmonics jump off the evo but it's tamed by the breed. You could play anything from chunky rhythm to jazz in this position. I love the combo. Way better than the fake emgs stock. I was worried the combo might be too much with my JSX but it's the perfect balance. I love these.

I'm playing an LP standard, Boogie DC5 thru Marshall 1960a cab. When it comes to overdrive, this pickup matches the Evolution bridge perfectly. If you're looking for a fat and characteristic lead tone, this may be your pickup. It's got a full tone- not thin sounding in the least. I'd also recommend the Duncan Pearly Gates neck (which has a tad less output, but more high-end character imo). Both are awesome pickups.
