The DiMarzio DP193 Air Norton Pickup is the neck pickup that breaks all the rules. It's fat and warm, yet not muddy. It's hot, but not distorted. It's even got cool harmonics. The patent-applied-for magnetic structure reduces string-pull, so sustain is improved, and pick attack and dynamics are tremendously controllable and expressive. Combine the Air Norton pickup with a DiMarzio Tone Zone in the bridge position for a perfect blend of power and tone. DP193 pickups are recommended for solidbody and semi-hollowbody guitars.

When the Air Norton is in the neck position, it's a warm, open-sounding pickup with enough power to balance with all bridge humbuckers. Try the DiMarzio DP193 with 500K pots for maximum treble and harmonic presence. In the bridge position, the sound is medium output with solid lows and biting harmonics. You can try it here with 250K controls, or a 500K volume and 250K tone to fatten the highs up a little. The Air Norton combines well with an Air Classic in the neck, and also with Cruiser, Chopper and Blue Velvet single coil pickups.

I have the Air Norton in the neck position of my 1974 Gibson Flying V and it is the coolest sounding clean tone I've ever heard. I also have a Andy Timmons in the bridge position and they really work well together. In the middle switch position, the AT adds a bit of sparkle to the AN. The AT is cool clean too but with the distortion channel on..................pure smoke. I have a Kahler trem and both pickups are great with it,(they are F spaced), so I don't know what the other reviewer was talking about. Buy one!!!!

I dropped this thing in the neck of my Jackson King V with a Dimebucker in the bridge and when both pickups are on all bets are off. The Air Norton has a low end, but its crisp and warm. It is pure power.

Sweet and Smooth

I had a Dimarzio PAF Pro in the neck position of my alder American Stratocaster HH but I found it sounded a bit muddy and just kind of lifeless (Perhaps better suited for a Gibson?). After reading some reviews and watching some demos I decided to try the Air Norton. It's simply fantastic. It's crisp and clear, the bass is not too muddy and the treble is sweet and smooth. Of course pickup choices are a matter of taste, but this pickup sounds great with or without overdrive and for everything from blues to metal. I have a Super Distortion in the bridge position and it makes a versatile combo. Perfect for the neck position of an alder Strat.

I put this in a custom shop tele, with a DiMarzio Air Zone on the bridge. The difference in sustain is incredible, it's like playing a B3. Having an "Air" series pickup in both positions seems to make the sustain really take off.

NEVER IN A FLOYD ROSE GUITAR

Well, I have to say that it's not a good idea to install this pickup in the neck position for a Floyd Rose guitar. I installed this on my Ibanez RG Prestige together with a Super Distortion in the bridge and a Fast Track 1 in the middle. It has no balance and lacks of precense and response. But this doesn't mean this is a bad pickup. Try the Air Norton on a stop tail guitar and right after that you will notice that this is the right neck pickup for that kind of axe. I installed this on a LTD stop tail with a Tone Zone in the bridge and the combination was just perfect. I recommend use this pickup on mahogany guitars with stop tail bridge like Les Pauls. Mahogany made and neckthru guitars improve their performance.
