Joe wanted a neck position humbucker that combined the best qualities of the DiMarzio PAF Pro with those of a late '50s Gibson humbucker. Joe described this tone as being "tubular". Through the use of Virtual Vintage technology, clear-sounding low frequencies are blended with warm-sounding mids and high frequencies, which makes the PAF Joe equally good for chords and single notes. It was first used by Joe throughout the 2003 G3 tour. Recommended for all positions, solid, semi-solid and hollowbody electric guitars.

Tech Talk: What does "tubular" mean? In this case, it means making low notes "speak" more clearly while giving high notes a rounder voicing. This accomplishes 2 goals: chords have better definition, and single notes at higher fret positions remain warm sounding rather than getting thinner. The PAF Joe has slightly less power than the PAF Pro does. It balances well with bridge pickups like the PAF Pro, Fred, Breed neck model, Air Norton, and Norton.

Before I got this pickup, I had only one functioning pickup in my SG style DeArmond guitar. I bought this to replace the cruddy broken stock neck position pickup and OH MAN does it kick BUM!! It is very good for clean playing and moderate distortion, but i prefer my dimarzio PAF Pro for heavy metal playing. Overall, you cannot go wrong with this if you wanna sound like Clapton, Stray Cats, or Stevie Ray Vaughn.

I love this pickup. I got it installed in the neck position of my 2005 Ibanez SZ320 (along with a DiMarzio Steve's Special in the bridge) with the intention of it being used for leads, but even though the Steve's Special is fantastic too, I end up keeping the neck on for basically everything. It is beautifully even and keeps notes sustaining for a long time. Nice tone with some personality, too. Very flexible. Buy this.

Satch up my Ibanez GRX

I took my low end Ibanez GRX that plays great and put in the PAF Joe in the neck also with a MO'Joe in the bridge with parralel wiring. This combo automatically turned this guitar around. It sounds amazing and really expresses notes and chords, especially the low end strings up on the neck are clear. No muddyness, notes really come out and sing. I think I understand "tubular" now but if anything this makes my Crate solid state more Tubular. Can't wait to switch it to Coil-splitting and see what that does. If ya like a fat, warm, in your face, clear tone then go for this combo.

Purchased this along with a Mo'Joe to replace stock pickups in my Ibanez RGT42DXFM. Needed something with enough bite to cut through the mahogany body, but didn't want a super-high output pickup. This pickup did the trick. Performs as advertised, I get a great sound clean/overdriven and individual notes remain clear across the fretboard.

I recently had this pickup installed in the neck position of my Ibanez S470( With an Evolution in the bridge position...) and this thing sounds straight lovely!!! It is nice and full bodied, but not to dark, and not at all muddy. My intention was to have the bright, sparkly Evolution in the bridge, and this in the neck, but now that I can hear them both in comparison, it makes the Evolution sound bright and dry. I my be putting one of these in my bridge position in the near future...
