DiMarzio believes the Area '58 and Area '61 are a major step forward in the performance of hum cancelling Strat replacement pickups. The technology that went into the DP417 models has allowed them to make a similar advance with Telecaster guitar pickups. The Area T neck model has the combination of clarity and warmth that Telecaster players have always sought.

The DP417 pickup is recommended for the neck.

Tech Talk: The contrast between a warm neck pickup tone and a biting bridge pickup sound is a Tele hallmark, but it's hard to achieve if the neck pickup is muddy. The Area T neck model has a very smooth tone, but its ability to remain clear even with heavy overdrive is an essential quality of Area design. The Area T pickup was designed to work with 250K controls, but treble response and output can be increased by using 500K volume and tone controls or tweaked further with a 250K volume and the EP1202 1 Megohm tone control.

Great Pickup!

I put this pickup in my American 52 Tele reissue a little over a year ago to get rid of the hum and lower output of the stock pickup.

I love the tone! It is very responsive to the guitars volume knob and doesn't loose tone when the vol is rolled back. It breaks up very nicely has a ton of sustain and is not muddy at all.

I would definitely recommend this pickup to anyone.

NO MORE TELE!!!

I installed the DiMarzio DP417 and DP413 pickups in my 2005 Fender MIM (made in mexico) Tele. (Ash body, Maple neck). I liked the sound of the tele prior to this modification with 2 exceptions: The standard bridge pickup was a little to bright, and the guitar had to much HUM!!! The hum was the reason for the supposed "upgrade". I could compensate for the bright sound of the bridge pickup with tone adjustments, but the hum was terrible, especially playing alone at home, or when recording. Granted, the room I play in is loaded with computers, TV's, monitors and other electronics that annoy the single coils.

I'll take the hum over the sound of the new DiMrzios. The guitar is now very nondescript. The tele twang is gone. It doesn't even sound like a tele anymore. If I was blindfolded, I wouldn't even know I was playing a tele in the neck or middle position. The bridge pickup alone sounds vaguely like a tele. Vaguely. I did do the install myself, and I am not a Luthier, but I don't think my work is the problem. I will be calling Dimarzio tomorrow to see what they have to say, and I will re-post with the outcome of that conversation. I've played the guitar through a Fender Deville and a Blues Junior. I am a mediocre intermediate guitarist who has been playing for 40 years. I wish I could better put into words how the pickups do sound. All I know is the Tele sound is gone.
