The vowel-like open wah-wah feel of the PAF Pro and FRED is combined with tremendous midrange and bass for a sound that really kicks hard. Because the lows, mids, and highs are all boosted, using a Tone Zone feels like cranking up an extra set of tone controls. It adds further dimension to the sound of your amp - that elusive edge that can make a good-sounding rig into a great-sounding one. Notes seem to get bigger after they're picked, and burn hard as they sustain. It's the right stuff to wake up your amp. Ballsy, aggressive tone has plenty of drive in all the right frequencies, abundant gain to push preamps and power amps, and sensitivity to pick attack that gets the most out of any style from metal to blues. Hot enough to qualify as a high-output pickup but with a wider dynamic range. Hard picking will produce a lot of power and softer picking will be much cleaner and quieter.

I have never written a Mfriend review this IS the only bridge pickup in the world if its too muddy for ya back it off the strings a little, I have over 80 guitars and about 1/3 of them have this pickup in them... you could screw this thing to a coffee can and it would sound excellent. Install about 1/4 to 3/8 from the strings, a 500k pot with a .001 treble bleed cap, and disconnect the tone control, its stupid anyway. You will be able to use your volume control thru a heavy distorted amp to go from clean to mean to hot all right from your guitar...

it's a very Fat pickup, if you're using a really bassy amp while playing really distorted, it can end up as mud, but the same is true for any pickup, with the exception of ceramic or active pickups, then again, there's no real justification for playing that distorted, it would just sound like too much distortion, and it's all too easy to make it sound like too much distortion with ceramic and active pickups.

Alnico V is the best material for pickup magnets, just know that this is an awesome sounding pickup, and will remain to be awesome sounding for long periods of time.

Wow. How I have come to love ceramic pickups. This Alnico V based Tone Zone sounds like a mudd brick compared to the Super Distortion. I can't get any real high end from it, and paired with a PAF Pro up front it goes from mudd to puddle. Seriously thinking of The Super D taking its place. maybe I'll try an orange cap first.

I rated all fives...just because I friggin can. I have searched low & hi for a smoking, creamy as butter, brain frying lead pickup...this is it. If you are looking for that pickup that can fatten up your solos...look no further. I LOVE the rich tone this puts out. Buy this pickup & get ready to cry tears of sweet joy...

I tried this pickup in the bridge position of my friend's RG320QM. The guitar has a basswood body, a quilted maple top, and a LO-TR S tremolo, and a DiMarzio Air Norton in the neck position. In this guitar, the Tone Zone rocks! The Tone Zone and Air Norton combination is quite possibly the best pickup combination that I have ever heard. These two pickups sound great with a basswood/maple guitar. I imagine that without the maple brightening the tone then the guitar would sound better. The Tone Zone has a very punchy sound, it makes open chords, suspended chords, and especially 5 add 9 chords sound very clear, articulate, and huge. It's also great for shredding, you can hear every note just fine, and the notes have a lot of definition and punch, and the notes are not too harsh; no need to switch to the neck pickup. The Tone Zone is also very versatile. I mostly play Christian Praise and Worship, Metal, Rock, and some Blues; and these pickups cover every genre mentioned very well. Also, if any Metalheads are reading, this pickup has more than enough gain to cover any type of Metal. One could call this pickup "A jack of all trades, master of most." If I ever get a basswood RG with a tremolo, then this pickup will definitely be my first choice for a pickup swap. Thanks Dimarzio for a great sounding, versatile pickup. To everyone reading, Jesus loves you!
