Overall, I am pleased by the Dunlop Straplok. I have installed it both into my Fender Telecaster and 2006 Gibson Les Paul Standard. I am not a No modifications were made with my LP professional, and I have not used it for live performances very much, but I have no problems with it so far. and Tele. However, the screw did feel too tight when I installed it into the neck side of my LP. There were no problems after that though. The screws feels just right for (both sides of) my Tele and bridge side of my LP.

Aesthetically, I prefer Dunlop than Schaller, but many people on the internet say that Schaller is more reliable, and it probably is because they use a horse shoe catch - meaning if the lock button is accidentally released, the catch is still holding the guitar.

it's a pretty simple design... kind of a hassle to put together. The screws are either too small or too large for the 2 guitars ive used it on. too large on the epiphone les paul [had to open the hole with a small power tool, something i was not really inclined to do, cuz of wood cracking and losing some tone, but it was recommended by a music teacher. ultimately the hole was too large and had to use a toothpick on one of the ends to fill the gap... that 1 strap joint never stayed put, lots of wiggling and actually fell apart one time onstage.

the other a fender tele standard, the screw was too small... easily changeable.

i got a pair of the nickel ones, and the have lasted... at least on the tele which i take excellent care of... on the les paul oxidation... but mostly cuz i used to leave it on a stand in my room, where there was a change of temperature almost every day cuz of the air conditioner.

they are perfect for the price... you just have to take care of them and make sure they fit on the guitar... look up the specs... for real

I bought a set of these in black originally for my Epiphone Goth Les Paul Studio. I had great results, and now I've got them on every guitar I own. Be aware, however, that some guitars will need modification for the screws to fit. I had to use pieces of toothpick to make these fit on my Mollenhauer SST Klassik (boutique Strat copy). I understand that Gibsons are the same way. It's a quick modification, but I know some players don't like modifying their guitars at all.

No Problems Thus Far

I have been using Dunlop Straplocks religiously on all but 3 of the basses I've had since 1992. In fact, the first set I picked up for my Fender AM Std Jazz Bass are still in service! They aren't as shiny as they use to be, but they get the job done. The trick is to give them a little tug when you insert the lock into the button. If it won't stay in, give it a little squirt of WD-40, and they'll be fine. I've had to do this about every 5 years or so with my oldest sets.

As far as screws not fitting, it's impossible to make a screw that's gonna fit EVERY guitar or bass.

Also, a Dunlop doesn't twist the strap button as much as a Schaller, and the Schaller straplocks have that nut that you have to remember to tighten with a new strap, otherwise it'll loosen up and be useless. I've seen it happen to every guitarist I've been in a band with.

Not for Gibson Historics!

These may work fine for some guitars but the supplied screw is too small for the Gibson historic Les Paul's. People have been using wood glue & saw dust and jamming toothpicks into the guitar body to keep the smaller screws from slipping out. It seems that Dunlop should make a Strp lock for Gibson guitars too! Too bad!
