The 40HZ for 5-string bass features a dual-coil design for low noise and plenty of output. Using EMG's "CS" design (Ceramic and Steel), this pickup has the punch and fullness of older passive designs along with added brightness for a better defined tone. EMG-HZ bass models feature Solid "Bar" Poles that cover the entire width of the strings so any string layout can be used. Using an Extended Series housing, it is a direct replacement with EMG's entire "Active" pickup line. All HZ Pickups have EMG's exclusive 5-wire Quik-Connect output allowing any number of wiring combinations, and are fully shielded for a minimum of noise. String grounding is recommended to further decrease noise. Package Includes: Mounting screws and springs.

I recently replaced the factory pickups in my Gibson Thunderbird Studio 5-String with a pair of these with a two volume one tone set up. The difference has been like night and day. The pickups are sharp all the way down to the low b, dead silent when you're not playing, and the range of tones I get out of the pair is astounding. Having the one tone control let's me go all the way from a flat smooth jazzy sound up to so much pop and grit it almost sounds like it's being played with a distortion effect. I chose the passive configuration at first because my guitar didn't have room for me to put in a battery without some serious routing, but it eneded up being the right decision anyway because I can't tell any difference in the sound. I would have gladly paid twice as much as I did for these pickups, and I will never buy a bass without emg's allready in it or a pair of these ready to go in after purchase again.
