David has used this same EMG system for many years on his main red Strat. The DG20 pickup comes with 3 ivory SA single-coil pickups, wired with an EXG guitar expander, an SPC presence control, and master volume ? all on a deluxe white pearl pickguard, ivory pickups, and white knobs. The SA single-coil pickups feature Alnico magnets which give a full round tone with an accentuated mid range. The EMG-EXG guitar expander circuit increases the bass and treble while reducing the mids, perfect for chord definition at higher volumes, while the SPC makes the SAs sing by boosting the mids and turning your single coils into full blown humbucking! Now you can have the same guitar pickups and tone accessories as David, but keep practicing if you want to get to the "Dark Side of the Moon." EMG-EXG For flexibility in tone at your fingertips, there is no better choice than the EXG guitar expander. The frequency response of the EXG is similar to normal guitar amp equalization. The lows and highs are boosted while the midrange is dipped out. The EXG is great for creating a fuller tone that doesn't get muddy, while keeping it clean and clear, letting your guitar stand out in the mix.

I bought a '57 reissue Strat specifically to put these pickups on it. I had to mount them on a different pickguard ('57 Strats have 8-hole pickguards instead of 11), but I would have done that anyway, since I'm not really feeling the "pearloid" pickguard.

Like others, I fed the battery clip through the ground-wire hole into the tremolo cavity (had to widen the hole a bit). I can't imagine taking off the pickguard and strings every time the battery dies!

Anyway ... what I wanted was David's tone from "Pulse" -- his intro to "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" on that recording is the sweetest tone I've ever heard. THESE ... PICKUPS ... DELIVER!!!

I had these put on my 1972 Fender Strat. a week ago and these things are Freakin sweet. My axe was already a dream but these pickups made it a wet dream. The tone is A+. Its so nice to be able to adjust you tone knobs without loosing your tone and volume. Did it cost over 300 yes but if you have a sweet guitar to put it on the investment is well worth it. You get what you pay for. My wife was a little upset with me when she came home and I had my guitar laying in bed next to me. I promise you will not be upset with this purchase. This is a must have American Strat. upgrade...

Not the good

These are really not that good. They are super noisy. Maybe it was just mine but they produced more noise/hum than my stock mexican strat pickups. The two tone control add-ons were also pretty useless in my opinion too. To me they seemed extremelly limited.

Just installed this on my strat a few weeks ago, the sound upgrade from my stock pickups to this was amazing. You can easily get a nice crunch to a mellow blues. The biggest drawback I would say is the price, its pretty expensive however you get what you pay for, also I wish it came in other colors. The neck pick up screams with a good overdrive when played right. All around great pups, im still experimenting with the tones it has a wide range. Thumbs up.

EMG Dave Gilmour Set

Installation was a bit tricky as the instruction sheet that came with it was clearly a different version. You can download a correct version from ww.EMGINC.com. Fortunately, having a technician background, it wasn't hard to pick the green wire as signal and the black wire for the earth.

I was annoyed that EMG put the battery under the pickguard. I moved the battery to the spring chamber and extended the wires from the battery clip via a 3mm hole. I only use 3 springs to hold the bridge flat, so that worked out well. Now its a whole lot easier changing the battery!

Remember to use a MONO jack on the guitar lead, or the system power will never turn on - doh!

The sound is STUNNING. It's very quiet and I can sound just like Dave Gilmour - pity I can't play as well as him.

The first tone control, EXG, boosts bass and treble and can overdrive an input. The second tone control, SPC, boosts midrange. With SPC up full and with the bridge pickup overdriven, you can hear the dark side of the moon!

For quiet clean bluesy tones, the neck pickup is superb.

I've installed EMG's in guitars before and I would rate this as a pinnacle if anyone wanted to endeavour into EMG technology.
