Black, Back Robert Trujillo of Metallica

Sweeping harmonic overtones and clarity, these active bass pickups have full-bodied sounds that add new dimensions to your bass playing. They have very low ratios of resistance to inductance that increase the low-frequency response, yet still maintain the narrow aperture for that typical Jazz Bass tone. Instead of the side-by-side pole pieces, the EMG-Js use single-pole crescent-shaped magnetic fields to complement the radiused fingerboard. So whether you play fretted or fretless bass, you'll get incredible sound yet retain that traditional tone.

Recommended maximum overall string width, however, is 2-3/4" (70 mm). The EMG-J bass pickups come complete with prewired harnesses including dual volume controls, master tone controls, output jacks, battery clips, and pickup adjustment screws.

I wanted some pickups that could reduce the hum from my amp and the schools amp(the hum is so horrible that you can hear 90%hum 10% sound).Well i bought these and the hum is not a problem. Its very bright and clear. My only issue with these pickups is the bridge pickups is quieter (volume wise) then the neck pickup. Other than that they are awesome!!! Ill be back some for some EMG PJ pu.s soon.

I have a Rondo 4 string Jazz Bass. It's a Fender clone. Got bored with the "stock" sound, so we changed them out with the EMG's. Overall, I am happy with them. To my amazement, the sound difference does NOT warrant the upgrade. I guess my bass is worth more with the upgraded pickups??? That is definitely one positive outcome. If you already own a Fender J bass, I think you'll be mildly disappointed. You probably aren't going to notice any amazing "new sound" coming from your amplifier. I wished I had done more research and test drove a bass with active pickups before buying the EMG's.

When I was looking to replace the p-ups in my Mexican jazz bass I was looking at passive bassline p-ups but the music store only had these and boy am I glad they did. These are great for metal and hard rock. The members in my band were amazed at the difference in tone. I tune down to BEAD and these are great for the low tunings.

I changed my old Select designed by EMG pickups for my custom local made bass. The bass itself is a 10 years old bass with J style pickups. At first I was exceptic on the new pickups, since the old ones were already EMGs but passive. I've installed the active EMGs with a 18v circuit.

The sound is rich and while still similar, is completely full and has more frecuencies and volume overall. Highly recomended. BTW, you'll have to change all the circuit, I got a BQC system with it too.

It spiced up my bass, the neck pickup is full and round while the bridge one is nicer for solos and jazz with full of mids. Get one set, you will not be dissapointed.

A satisfied tone freak

I was having a custom bass built, read many reviews, and clearly the active EMG jazz pickups were very well liked, so I bought them. They are now in a mango body with the old defretted neck and shape from my Fender's odd but sleek bodied JP-90, black plastic tapewound strings and a SansAmp bass driver D1. The sound is so sweet that it doesn't matter what I play it through, my old polytone Minibrute, a larger, bi-amped cabinet, or the P.A. The low E is perfectly clear and rich. This not a lot of money to perk up the bass you are now probably disatisfied with or you wouldn't be reading this review. I have yet to see how they hold up in the Hawaiian rain forest. My friend's active EMG P-J pickups in his koa bass sound just as good, but different.
