Black, Back

The EMG-P is the bass pickup of choice since it was developed. The EMG-P pickup, like all the original EMG's, went through a redesign in 1979. The original "Embossed EMG Logo" model made everybody sit up and listen. The pre-'79 models are still used by players like Lee Sklar and Alphonso Johnson. More than a few have gravitated to the EMG-P for stage performance and studio recording. The EMG-P uses short, squat coils that have very little resistance and plenty of inductance. Because the coils are not in series like the passive types, there's about twice as much low end as a passive pickup. Ceramic magnets are used to add clarity. Countless pros use it because they find it has a natural presence, powerful lows, punchy midrange, and superior definition.

The EMG-P Precision bass pickup features hum-free noiseless operation with an even-timbred response. The P design was adapted for Ned Steinberger and became the EMG-SS (Steinberger Sound) used exclusively on the Steinberger Headless Bass. In order to make the composite bass sound more natural, EMG added steel poles for warmth and midrange. In addition to the standard EMG-P Pickup, the EMG-P5 and EMG-P6 are available for use in five and six string basses, respectively.

Package includes: EMG's exclusive Quik-Connect™ cable, prewired solid shaft volume/tone control set, output jack, battery clip set, adjustment screws.

I bought these pickups and put them in my mexican fender P and they blew me away. They have a nice punch with clarity and a great tone. I have used them on stage and in the studio for recording and they have always performed flawlessly. As stated in previously in other reviews putting the battery in the control cavity does require some work but it is well worth it for the sound. I have had these in my bass for 16 years and will probably have to replace the bass before the pickups. I have only put a 4.5 for features as it would be nice to have a bass and treble control. All in all well worth the cost.

Sounds good. Holds the sound of the oringal pick-up but with ALOT more headroom! I put it in an USA made Fender P Bass, be aware that getting a nine volt battery inside the control cavity can be a pain in the axx. The instructions recommend using 2 nine volt batteries wired in series. I got both of them in but not without having to router out the control cavity with a Dremel. But with that aside, it sounds good. Im used to active electronics in my basses. This is the first active pick-up I used. Overall Im happy with the purchase. I use a Ampeg 450 head and a 8x10 cabinet. The sound is loud clear and robust. The only downfall is with only your standered volume and one tone control your limited to the tone you get.If this was to quit working I would diffently get a replacement for it again. To bad they dont make a special 9-volt that is relly small. (lol) Dont forget your Dremel!!

It was over a dozen years ago when I had the EMG active split coil installed in my Korean Squire P-bass. Everyone I knew thought it was a useless gesture, but not only did it get me the perfect tone, it has also stood the test of time. I still use that same Squire on a lot of my recordings in my own studio and also with other outside projects. Not too long ago I gave a demonstration putting a vintage 64 Fender Precision against my Squire with the EMG and everyone agreed that my bass was the winner. I'm planning on getting one for the new P-bass I am putting together at my shop.

Add some high end sizzle to your P tone.

I bought these many years ago to upgrade the stock electronics in my Mexican P Bass. The sound difference was incredible. The new pickups gave me the actual ability to have a bit more highs in my tone. I've recently removed these pickups, and I'm routing the body to add a J cavity. The P/J setup will give me a bit more options. However, if you just want to add a new set of P pickups, EMG makes it easy. The only down side was trying to stuff a 9V battery in that little control cavity. These pickups are totally worth the price.

Fantastic P-bass pickup

These EMG's give you that "Hi-fi" aesthetic that often isn't available with most P pickups. Super hot output with a tone knob that can give you a lot of versatility. I bought these for my first bass and had them professionally installed. I still go to these EMG's because the sound these put out just can't be achieved by others (not saying that it's bad, but these are certainly different). I only give a 4.5 for overall because the output is too hot on the E string side and had to be lowered a great deal.

If you're looking for a hi-fi sound or something different, give these a try, you won't be dissapointed. The battery last a great deal of time if you're careful, and it will give you all of the output that you need.
