The H4 is the equivalent of EMG's 81 Active Pickup without the "active" that uses two "bar" loaded coils for "balls to the walls" tone. All HZ Pickups have EMG's exclusive 5-wire quick-connect output allowing any number of wiring combinations, and are fully shielded for a minimum of noise. String grounding is recommended to further decrease noise.

Great Passive Metal Pup

I had recently purchased a Jackson Dinky "DXMG" that came with a pair of H-3`s and decided to swap out the one in the bridge for an H-4. After installing, I plugged in to a Line 6 Spyder lV amp set to "metal/enter sandman" and was completely blown away by the tone. The mids are scooped and it`s all bass & treble. It also has ample power output for a passive pick up and the low end riffing w/ palm muting is great, and the high end as well. It picks up everything! I`m happy...

i have an epiphone les paul and i wanted to upgrade it abit and make my sound better. my bridge pickup pretty much died so i decided to this pickup over a seymour duncan sh-4. wow! what a good choice. its perfect for metal , sounds amazing for sweeps and stuff and has a nice clean tone and picks up everything. if your looking for a not so expensive way to make your guitar sound better this is the answer

EMG H4/HZ bridge P/U in a B.C. Rich Avenge SOB

Great pickup, especially for the value. Prior to upgrading, I spent many hours researching a wide variety of pickup options. It came down to a S. Duncan SH-8 or this EMG H4. The EMG has more of a warm chunk, and it picks up EVERYTHING. I was mainly concerned with heavy palm-muted speed riffs, and how muddy they sounded with the OEM BDSM B.C. Rich p/u's, but the EMG solved that problem. The Avenge has never sounded better, and I, in turn, have not been happier with it. Buy or die! :)

I am very picky about my tone and have changed stock pickups more times to count. I got these pickups in my epiphone Zakk Wylde and I was blown away by the sound. These babys rock. You can get all kinds of great rock tones with these from classic rock to thrash metal. If your looking for a replacement pickup because you want to beef up your tone, than this pickup is your answer. I could go on and on about how great this sounds. SIMPLY AMAZING!!!

8 years ago I bought an ESP that came stock with HZ's and it was the greatest things I've ever heard. I tried to find them so I could put them in my warlock but they weren't available. I've had the zakk wylde set in my les paul for years and recently put an HZ in the bridge of my korina explorer and you can't tell the difference. If you want emg sound without the battery hassel you can't go wrong with the HZ!
