I have been using this in-line between my AKG D112 mic and the mixing board for about a year now. No complaints. We have been able to run our bass drum EQ flat and gotten a pretty good kick drum sound. Recently, I tried recording with it and had the same experience.

In conclusion: To get the absolute best sound you will have to tweek your EQ a bit. But for a quick setup and guaranteed decent Kick sound with minimal effort, IT ROCKS!

Had band practice yesterday and plugged in the Kickpad for the first time. It's a solid, well-made piece. Can't imagine that much could go wrong with it.

After plugging it in to a Shure Beta52 --> Mackie ONYX 1620 (there's also a Presonus ACP-88 on the channel inserts for compression) and placing it in the bass drum, I set the eq on that channel (which I normally have tweaked for the bass drum) flat. Turned up the fader and adjusted the compression a tad to give it that nice punch while the drummer pounded away. First impression on the sound... the Kickpad really did the trick, and nicely.

It was effortless to get a very good kick sound, and it sat in the mix really well. I had some doubts when I first read about it, but it works pretty well.

Not sure how flexible it is yet, since I've only spent one practice with it (and about 2 minutes of setup), but I'm looking forward to messing around with it some more and trying it on some different kick drums. For that reason I can't give it a perfect rating yet.

At first I thought it was a tad overpriced... though it does seem to be a pretty decent time-saver, so then again, maybe not. I think I'd definitely pick up another if I lost this one.
