Total disappointment

After reading the generally glowing reviews of these strings I decided to give them a try. Boy was I disappointed. Not only do they not hold tune well, but they sound dull and lifeless. I was led to believe that these strings were incredibly durable and nearly unbreakable. I broke my A string after only a few weeks of playing. While I admit I'm not especially gentle with my instruments, I was still surprised at the lack of durability. I will not be purchasing elixir strings again.

I am a worship and praise guitarist. I have been using these thing on my guitar doe two years now, putiing them on a Breedlove Atlas series. I am very rough play, being that i strum quite hard. These things hold up extremely well! I juts played a two day long convention playing over 24 songs and they held up, even tho i haven't changed the string in over 3 months! The tone is excellent! the smoothe feel ain't half bad either. Get these things and go for gold!

Ideal String for a Seagull

I had just replaced some Martin strings with D'Addario light Phosphor Bronze on a Seagull S6. I discovered quickly the D'Addario strings were not going to play well. Love the D'Addario strings, just not on this guitar.
So, I tried the Elixirs. Made all the difference in the world. Great playability, good sound definition and easy on the fingers. An impressive set of strings perfect for the Seagull.
And though I play mostly fingerstyle, I do get some aggressive play in as well. The strings have held up well.

For you guys that keep breaking strings...check for problems with bridge, nut, or tuners. I have played these strings on my Taylor for years and I play 'em hard, and I have never, repeat never, broken an Elixer string.

these are good strings if you like that really bright tone that you get from a fresh pack of strings. who doesn't? but, if you have a heavy hand, i wouldn't recommend them. in fact, i would only recommend them for those who use paper thin picks and folk style strumming. as far as coated strings go, i've tried them all and these sound the best, but break the most. i can't remember the last time i got to use a set for its entire suggested lifetime. so, the box could say they'll last years for all i care, they'll still only get about half way through a set before one snaps off. i've complained to the company, but they don't really seem interested in the issue and claim that they will replace any broken strings but still have not given me information on how to redeem this. i use whatever's cheap, phosphor bronze, and i can buy in bulk. sometimes martins do the trick. i'm currently happy with d'addarios. try them if you like, but please be aware that they will probably break.
