I just put one of these in my "gold glow" ampeg J-12 from the 60's to replace the almost 50 year old Jensen. The Eminence sounds great, gives it a lot more headroom, more volume from the 15 tube watts and a clearer bigger sound. The only reason I didn't give it 5 for quality is the lining on the back rim of the speaker was coming unglued when I opened the box, but this doesn't do anything that I'm aware of. No EQ on the J-12, just volume tone and tremolo, but with this speaker it doesn't even need it. Sounds way more full, deep and clear than the original speaker. I'd recommend this for someone looking to replace an old or stock speaker.

Pro's: It is built solid unlike what I have heard about newer Celestion, and I have heard alot of good things about these Eminence speakers. They aren't complete rip-offs like the Celestions. They aren't made in China, like the Celestions. Comes with guitar picks and an Eminence badge.

Con's: possibly too fair on the price of this speaker? Stupid looking sticker on the back.

Thoughts: Well, I haven't tried any other speakers in my Mesa Studio Caliber, but I had one of these (16 ohm, double the ohmage as needed for my MESA) laying around in a broken Peavey Classic 30, so I put it in the MESA. It makes the EQ alot more usable by bumping up the high-end. I guess I had a Black Shadow stock speaker in there before, and it had NO usable midrange or treble. So when I put the Screamin' Eagle in, it made those 2 knobs actually usable. I haven't had the chance to crank up the volume, but it handles my lil MESA (2xEL84's) without even the slightest bit of breakup, which is OK since the MESA is very high gain.
