These strings are definetely not designed for Fender Jazz Standard Basses. I agree with most of the writers here that these strings have absolutely no tone, no bottom end or brilliance. They just sound well....empty for a lack of a better word. Perhaps on an active bass there is hope. But on a jazz?? forget about it. If you have a Jazz, stick with the steel core nickel plated fender strings that come standard. You won't get any better than that.

Good Sounding Strings

I play bass in a Classic Rock cover band Social Disconnect and on Sunday mornings I play bass with the Worship team at Raleigh Vineyard. I use Ernie Ball 125-95-75-60-40 strings on my Roscoe SKB3005, Demeter preamp and Nord DC pickups.

These strings produce a nice tight low end with a nice touch of highs. I play through an Epifani Quest II preamp with a Stewart 1.6 through a UL210 and UL410 Epifani cabinets. I get a nice modern tone and I can easily dial in some growl if I ever need to cut through the loudest guitarist and drummer. These strings feel really good under my fingers and when I need to add a little slap, they respond.

I used to play DR Black Beauties but on my bass the Ernie Balls sound better and on top of that I can get two packs of Ernie Ball strings for the same price as one pack of the Black Beauties. Stop throwing your money away and try Ernie Bass strings!

Great strings

With that said, Super Slinky's are my string of choice for my 5-string. I play a Traben Chaos Obsession neck-thru with soapbars and active 3-band (see Traben's website), and these strings sing particularly well with this bass! I've used GHS, Roto's, Fender's, and a few other brands of string, and they all sounded good in different ways. However, I prefer these strings over the others on this bass. I get rich, thick, bright sound at the beginning of the tonal process with these strings, which allows me to shape my tone and modify my technique appropriately for the artist I'm recording with per session. I also like the feel of these strings under my fingers, and they have a pretty decent life expectancy as far as uncoated strings go.

Just remember that tone begins with you technique, then your bass, then your strings and everything else. A good bassist can get good tone out of almost any strings unless the cores are dead. Even then, we can fake it and make it work if need be.

I just got these for my Fender Squier Jazz Bass and these strings made my bass sound really good. Really good on the high G string and D string. If you're looking for strings for a low model bass. These are the ones.

these strings really pissed me off. i realize that these are rediculusly skinny but they could not produce a single deep tone that would sustain. the e and b strings were muddy and made nearly no sound half the time. buy thicker strings!!!!!!
