The Evans Adjustable Dampening EMAD Bass Drum Head comes with 2 damping rings, each of which affects the head's sound and pedal response. EMAD stands for Externally Mounted Adjustable Damping and this external system maximizes natural attack characteristics. It offers tremendous dynamic range (even at low dynamic levels where other systems fall short). It also allows quick, easy adjustments without having to remove the head from the drum—an especially valuable feature during recording sessions. Evans EMAD Bass Drum Heads come in 18", 20", 22", and 24" sizes.

If you're recording bass drums, the EMAD will make your life easier. Order today.

Nice head, recyclable!

I had this head quite a while back, absolutely loved it. I never had a problem with the plastic ring breaking or cracking, rather the only issue is that it didn't seem to last as long as any of my other bass drum heads. For repairing the plastic ring if it separates from the head, use "Duck" brand window adhesive double-stick tape. It works just as well as the original tape, and I used it to attatch the ring from my broken EMAD onto my EQ4 head!

This is truly a nice sounding and feeling head. The features are amazing no internal muffling needed. However I have an issues with it's durability. The great tone you get at first soon fades to a more average tone. Without a patch this head will soon dent or break. I'm not a really heavy hitter so other heads have lasted 2-3 times as long. My main concern is the plastic that holds the Ex Muffling it WILL break defeating the whole purpose. Now you need internal muffling and you have a less then desirable head.

good sound - bad construction

This is by far the best sounding head I've ever played. Very sensitive and gives a nice low pitched boom without internal padding. With padding it makes a nice thud that's better for metal. The only problem I've had with mine is the plastic that holds the foam ring on has completely broken off, ruining the sound. Duct tape only worked for so long. I'm now looking into either the Aquarian Superkick or the Remo version of this - hopefully they'll be made better.

There are reviews written all over this website about how "amazing" this head is. I got mine on my Gretsch Renown when I bought it, so I thought "everyone likes it, it must be good". It takes a while to tune up, but then it sounds ok. Not perfect though. The two foam rings don't really have much of a difference between each other. Also, the plastic ring that holds them on that is attached to the bass drum is cracking apart and falling off in pieces. The sound of the head gives you a nice big "thump", but it doesn't have that big of a tuning range. This isn't necessarily a bad head, I've had bad luck with other bass drum heads. If you're planning on buying this, fine, just read the other reviews, ask other drummers, and don't ignore other heads - "do your homework".

Great Head

I've been using these heads for about a year and a half. I've used the Evans EQ3, EQ2, G2 and Aquarian batter heads for my kick and this is the Cadillac of them all. Great tone, and beautiful punch. If your looking for a resonant head, go with the Evans Emad, you won't be dissapointed. By the way I bought a beater for my pedal that has plastic on the side that hits the head instead of felt and totally dented it, so STAY WITH FELT. Any wood or plastic beaters are no good for any head in my opinion.
