Not the best heads in my opinion...

I have had these heads for about two-and-a-half months on my Gretsch Renown Maple (8,10,12,14)with Evans Ec Resonant heads on bottom. Fist of all, they do not like to be tuned low, especially toms 12in and up. The Floor tom sounds good but the racks are too high for my taste, maybe due to the Ec Resonants but they wrinkle very easily. They are more for mid-range tuning, not high not low. They sound pretty good tuned but sound kinda floppy like you're hitting a detuned head almost but still have the full tone. If you want a good demonstration of them, go on youtube and watch Tommy Igoe's video on them, but listen with good headphones.

A friend recommended these heads to me...

A friend recommended these heads to me saying they had a great "boom" to them. I'm a Grohl disciple so this appealed to me quite a bit. After putting them on my 12" and 16" Ludwigs and spending a couple days playing with them, I'm not that impressed. They sound good, don't get me wrong, but not at the price. Save your money and get some Remo Pinstripes if you want that Barker sound. As for me, I'm going back to coated Remos and Moongels. You can't beat it.

I was looking for some new tom heads to replace my factory ones, and I decided to go with Evans EC2 SST clear batter heads. I put them on, tuned them up and wow. Do they sound amazing! I've tuned my toms to give a wide to narrow sound (Think of the sound going through a funnel, the open side being the batter and narrow side as the reso) Great feel, great response. Makes my cheap drum set sound amazing.
However, on my 16" floor tom, the black material has started to flake off and its only been 5 days. FIVE DAYS. Come on. For the price, I would like to see these things last AT LEAST a month. Granted I am a heavy hitter, but still! These should have some tighter quality control.
On the other hand, the 12" tom is holding up fine.

Poor Quality Control and No Customer Service

Bought these heads 9/09 and placed them on my DW stutio kit. They sounded very good. About 6 weeks later the sound control ring on the 14 inch head started to deteriorate and flake off falling inside the tom. I called and emailed Evans and have not received any response. Evans is now owned by D'Addario and I guess they are just another giant company that does not give a crap. For an example of great customer service...I emailed DW about an air lift throne that was giving me troulbe and they actually called me that day, sent me a free UPS shipping label and replaced the throne. I also contacted Tama via phone regarding a older Iron Cobra pedal that was wobbling and they repaired it for free even though it was way out of warranty. Thats great customer service and the way it should be for us drummers. I spend thousands of dollars each year on drums and supplies because I am a professional musician, however Evans will not be on my X-mas list this year. Too bad cause these heads do sound very good.

Usually when you read reviews or descriptions for drum heads, you hear descriptions about "dark overtones" and "good resonation" and stuff like that. When I was looking for drum heads, this information was useless to me, because I didn't really pay attention to "dark overtones" and specific things like that, I was just looking for some really good heads. I'll make it very simple, these heads are amazng! I don't know about overtones and resonation and all that, but the heads are very good for metal type playing. Like it says on the packaging, these heads aren't meant to muffle the ring you get from your drums, they are made to enhance the ring, and they do just that. I used to have two to three moon-jells on each drum, but with these heads I only need about one on each and that does the trick. I used to have some Evans G2 clear heads on top and TAMA stock heads on the bottom and my drums sounded okay, but now they sound at least ten times better. I have the Evans EC2 clear on top of my 12 and 16 inch toms, as well as Evans clear resonant heads on the bottom. I still have th G2 and stock heads on my other toms, and there is a clear difference between the drums. Buy these and you won't be dissapointed!!
