A real piece of junk

I was given one of these last year as a Christmas gift from a guy who follows my band around. It was wrapped, and I didn't open it until the next day, or I would have given it back to him. None of the hex wrenches fit my guitars, the screw drivers are crude and hard to use. Even the string cutter cutter is poor and hard to use without scratching the head stock. I still have the thing in the bottom of my gig bag primarily because I'm unwilling to give the thing to a friend, as it is junk, and it was a gift from a well meaning fan.

I got this free with my guitar case several years ago. None of the hex keys fit ANY of my guitars truss rod or saddles. Input jack wrench doesn't even fit an input jack nut. And the philips and flathead screwdrivers are awkward to use. The only thing this thing does at all for me is cut strings, and it does that extremely poorly. The cutter should have been at the edge cause it leaves a lot more left over slack on the string that can catch things, stab you, etc. You're better off using a regular string cutter, heck my leatherman multi tool is a better guitar tool then this thing it has pliers, a file, better screwdrivers, and a bottle opener (for that cold one after stringing up a guitar). Cost me about the same too. Save your money, buy a wire cutter and hex key set and you'll have something already 10x better then this thing for half the price.

Not great, but haven't found better

Low tech construction - the frame is stamped metal, the allens and such are on friction pivots, not snap action like a pocket knife, and the bridge pin puller will bend in use on those stubborn pins where you really need it. Frustratingly, I had to use another set of pliers to straighten the puller because the puller is attached to this thing, and anyway the tips are not really pliers. I'm going to try the Dunlop pin puller and see if it is better.

The cutters work fine so far (one restringing on my acoustic bass)with no signs of nicking on the hardened insert cutting edges. They will probably last years of hobbyist use.

It has two screwdriver blades, but you'll probably use real screwdrivers anyway. The tips should have actually been pliers instead of pointy metal with unknown purpose. It should have included a simple string winder. It should have folded into a useful screwdriver handle like a Leatherman or similar.

But in the end, I have not found many guitarist multi-tools, and just being decent cutters with a pin puller that might last a few uses will probably be enough to keep this in my case. Hardly a glowing rating, but I'm keeping mine.

Ruins your finish

Be VERY careful. This tool will scratch your head stock when you cut the string. The string cutter is recessed from the end of the plier jaws a little more than 1/4 inch. When you get the string into the cutter and squeeze to cut, the end of the jaws WILL nick the finish below the string. Very poor design. I am goint to grind the jaws even with the cutter blade so I don't get any more scratshes on my guitar. You are better off buying a small pair of diagonal cutters.
