Want your bass to sound like a bass? Get these!

I've used both flats and rounds for years, but decided to switch to flats exclusively. To me, in my humble opinion, these make your bass sound like a bass should-deep, full and fat.
After trying many brands over the years, I have settled on Fender 9050L flatwounds. They sound thick and full, while retaining a good note definition. They are higher tension than other brands of similar gauge flats, but don't let that put you off-get your instrument set up, and they are very easy to play! When they break in, they feel even better.
If you want a hi fi sizzly bass sound, these are not for you. If you prefer the flatwound sound, get these strings, you won't be sorry!

I'll be brief. If you like the bass sounds from the 60's and 70's, or are looking for a more "bass" sound that is less like a piano string and more like a distinct sonic entity, go with these. The gauge is nice for someone like me who had never played flats and preferred the lighter gauge strings like EB Hybrids. And yes, you can still slap and pop. It will not sound like Flea, but it will sound very funky, like Neville Brothers or other funk artists from the 70's. I bought several sets, both used and new, for my P and J and now these are the only strings I use.

I just bought a pair of these to put on the little student model bass that I just purchased here at Musician's Friend. It came with round wounds, and, since I don't like or need the high harmonics of rounds, these are ideal. I had a 105 gauge set of Fender flat wound strings on my old Fender P-Bass, and they lasted forever, but combined with the P-Bass neck always gave me a workout. Tension was pretty high, even after being broken in. The .95 gauge light weights do the job just fine, and are much easier on my fret hand. Plus, they make my new little bass sound great. Eventually, I'm going to string these on almost all of my basses. You can't go wrong for the money. As other's have mentioned, these are not good for slap/pop playing, but will give your bass a well defined thumping tone for "regular" playing.

I got these a few months ago for my Dean EAB Acoustic Bass. I was worried about the tension of the heaver gauge, plus I wanted to get the "upright thump" from it, and with these I get that and more!
The combination of these strings & the K&K 4 String pickup are a match made in heaven. I will be grabbing a few more sets, and put one set on my BB300. These are long lasting and sound good, how can you go wrong?
