Being around in the '60's, these give the sound i remember.i put these in a 1999 MIM Strat,(all American parts inside, stock)the diffrence was night and day.very clear and great blues pups. Not for Metal, but everything else you'll be very happy with these.I play Blues and classic rock and they do it all very well.Pull the triger they won't be around forever.these won't be the only Strat that these pups will be going in.that't how much i like them.

Great pickups, but over-priced

These pickups are a terrific upgrade from the stock pickups that came in my american strat. They are much more balanced and lively. But I do have one big problem with them. The neck pickup is completely tinny-sounding and lifeless. I've double-checked my wiring and done plenty of experimenting with the tone setting to correct it, but to no avail. It might be defective, who knows? But all other positions sound fantastic. What surprised me the most was how good the bridge pup sounded. I love it.

To sum up, these pickups sound great if you're looking for that rich, classic strat sound. But because of the problem with my neck pickup, I had to give them lower marks in the quality and value scales.

Maple or Rosewood?

I had a set of these in my Highway 1 Strat with a rosewood fretboard and they sounded gritty and dirty (in a good way) classic strat tone. I recently switched to a maple fretboard and I got a totally different sound, even better in my opinion. Now it's gritty, dirty and with attitude. Just be sure to experiment with the tone on your guitar, the height of the pickups and the settings on your amp before you jump to conclusions. If you can dial in the right tone, these pickups will make your strat sound juicy, gritty and nice and nasty! And you won't want to put it down, but you have to sleep sometime!

Gorgeous

To start off, I own a Mexican Strat. It was my first guitar and once I got a job, I started replacing all the low-quality parts with the best I could afford. Strap locks, locking tuners, bone nut, tortoise shell pickguard (on a white strat, it looks amazing), and finally the pickups. You know those old blues or rock recordings from the 60's with the impossibly gorgeous strat sound you think you can never get? Well these pickups get those sounds. Bridge pickup is Blackmore-ish, middle pickup is thumpy and defined. Neck pickup is bluesy and great. For me though, it's the in-between settings (out of phase) that really do it. Bridge/middle and middle/neck are so sweet and rich sounding, you have to hear it to believe it. If you love the sound of early strats, buy these pickups. Play them through a good Fender tube amp or a Marshall plexi like I do and you'll never put the guitar down.
