Great pickup! Transformed by mediocre guitar

I have a Yamaha FGX series acoustic electric - play weekly at church - acoustic based music - just was disappointed in my plugged in sound. Another player had an Ibanez with a fishman pickup which sounded magical. Anyway, I figured I couldn't afford a new higher end guitar and would try this pickup - wow, what a difference. Our soundman was super impressed as well. I installed it myself - generally was fun and easy and the sound is just incredible - I finally have a guitar I can be proud of vs. want to smash. Love the tone control and volume location. No problems, great product, if you're thinking of upgrading your guitar - get this pickup.

Bought this for a Guild GAD-25. This guitar sounds phenomenal through a microphone, but I wanted something I could blend in for recording. This pickup does have it's uses. It is excellent for finger picking, a very John Mayer type tone. Very responsive. Breaks up pretty bad when strummed hard which on an electric guitar would be fine, not so much for an acoustic. Very quiet, and fishman has the best tech support for any company I have ever dealt with, they are actual english speaking Americans who know what they are talking about. Great breath of fresh air. but the pickup is only decent. It's not terrible, but not what I consider Fishman quality.

I labored and researched long and hard before making the purchase and decision to have this pickup installed into my beloved 1970 Guild Madeira Dread'. My friendly local dealer put a Rare Earth Active into a guitar that already had this p'up installed so I could A/B them. The Matrix blew it away, no contest. This pickup, being an undersaddle type, does NOT sound like a piezo at all! It's big, natural, and more "woody" sounding, while the Rare Earth sounds more one-dimesional and magnetic, not nearly as full and rich... This p'up just sounds a lot more "real". The deciding factor was my trust in my local tech to install it. As you can imagine, I was VERY hesitant to have my favorite and beloved #1 drilled on. But if you have a competent luthier, or you're looking to replace or upgrade a crappy old undersaddle piezo, this pickup is SUPERIOR! The "remote" control, mounted under the soundhole rim, is helpful and useful too!!! I'm very happy with it so far.

Easy to install with no soldering. Had to replace my saddle since the new pickup was thinner than the old one and action was too low. This pickup system has more bass than any system I have ever used with plenty to spare. The tone knob works ok. You can't adjust the mids except when increasing the tone control then it increases the lows and highs while decreasing the mids. The problem I had was it big time increased the bass and I had to decrease the bass on the board but got a very usable sound. All in all a very good pickup, but being acoustic guitar pickup it needed a little eq tweaking.
