The only strings to use on a Dot.

I use the lighter ones on my strats, and these mediums are the only ones I used on my dot. They're fantastic if you want a smooth, warm sound. If you go for bite and twang and harsher sounds, these are probably not for you. These can scream and roar, but always with a touch of class. So if you like your playing to sound like a street fight, get something nasty sounding and go to town. If you like something smoother even when you dig in, go for these. Kind of like Sean Connery, you can swear your head off with these and it'll still sound classy.

Hands down the best string for Gibson guitars...especially if you want to keep that vintage mojo. Excellent tone, durable, less string choke(excessive string noise from gliding across the round wound strings, handles all types of music well. Nothing else go on my Gibsons.

I've played D'Addario 11's for as long as I can remember. I've also played on Carvin strings, Fender strings, Gibson strings, DR's... These strings by far take the cake. They aren't as rough as other strings (like a crossbreed between flatwounds and roundwounds.) and the tone on them is AMAZING. I love the thick thick low E and how good they feel to bend. I haven't had them their full life yet, but they really are a good string from what I can tell so far...and I'm a pretty picky guy. I'm still laughing at the guy that gave these a bad review. Oh, I have them on my Fender Strat. Using Carvin Electronics (hum/single/single).

What you need to try at least once

The E-J Nickel Rockers (11s) are my preferred string set for for rock on Gibson instruments (Les Paul, Explorer, et al). I've found them to be well balanced tonally right out of the pack and they tend to retain their character for the life of the string. I used to play the Boomers exclusively and still do on occasion but I don't like how bright they are when new and more importantly, how quickly the brightness falls off after they wear in. The extra weight on the lower strings used in the E-J set is nice - the little extra bit of metal simply sounds and sustains a little better than the standard set of Nickel Rockers.

I like the smoother feel of the roller wound material and although I have no proof, I think it's easier on frets. Pick slides require more attention as the ridges on the string are less pronounced. It can be a little tough to get a good consistent slide - but maybe I just need to spend more time practicing and less time writing reviews...

For the price you can't beat this set. Also, if you're playing 10s - step up to a man's string and get the 11s.

These strings just stole the soul of my Gibson SG! Totally lifeless and bad tone, couldn't wait till I just put them in the trash. I will never buy these worthless strings again. Get Boomers instead, they're just better.
