I did a ton of research on what the best way to amplify my acoustic would be (as my onboard system died on me in the middle of the worship service!). From everything I could find out there, a mic is the most ideal way of doing it as it should capture the sound in the most accurate way. The biggest downside to a mic is the immobility (unlike our bassist I LOVE to “rock” in the rhythm of the song) and with a fixed mic you can't do that. This soundhole mic seemed like a perfect solution! However, once I got it i could tell, just by the way it felt in my hands that the quality is low. The thing is a pain to install in the first place. It is extremely sloppy, the way it’s designed, and positioning the mic was a painstaking process. Even when I was done, I realized that I have to play very cautiously, because if I accidently move the mic (easy to do whether the mic is under or over the strings) I’ll get a horrible thump, and lose the volume balance. In the end, the low amount of output was just the tip of the iceberg. It was about 50% of the volume that I used to get with my old onboard system. Maybe this could work better with the brass instruments or something else, but definitely not a guitar thing. Needless to say, I returned it the first week and got a soundhole pickup instead.
