The Gibraltar Catapult Linear Motion Bass Drum Pedal was designed to provide a true response from the players' foot to the surface of the bass drum head by utilizing natural motion from the ankle. Upon consulting with a reputable fitness research agency, Gibraltar designed the Catapult pedal to allow the natural function of the extensor and flexor muscles.

Conventional bass drum pedal designs utilize frames with cam drives attached to springs. While pressing down on the pedal board, these springs produce a resistance promoting speed and power. In extended playing situations, this resistance often causes fatigue to the muscles of the lower leg and foot resulting in hindered playing and technique. Careful observation of the muscle groups used with a conventional-style pedal showed that the return stroke or upward movement of the foot was accentuated by the return spring. This caused major resistance, hindering the natural motion of the ankle.

Gibraltar's Catapult Linear Motion pedal (GCLMSP) was designed to permit the extensor and flexor muscles to function naturally, allowing the ankle and corresponding muscles to utilize a full range of movement. The result: A remarkable increase in muscle comfort, endurance, and precision. The mechanical advantage of the GCLMSP is total harmony with the biomechanics of the natural movement of the foot.

I just purchased two of thease pedals for my pearl kit. Its really a great pedal, the action is pretty smooth and the way they made is really durable but the pedals are heavy. But their not exacly what I wanted in a pedal. If you like playing with a lot of double bass, blast, or triples, then they are not worth getting. Unless its just me. I might just stick with AXIS.

Don't Fear New Technology

I wanted to write a review in response to the other reviews I have seen in regards to this pedal. This pedal does have a very long pedal board, but the reality is it has to so as to gain the leverage needed to allow the pedal to act as smoothly as it does. This is a fantastic product, and really the first true innovation in pedal technology that re-thinks how to transfer foot movement to the drum head. I have used DW, Pearl, and Tama Iron Cobras and I must say this pedal reacts to the foot movement in such a way that it allows for speed and feel that I have never experienced before. It is best for less aggressive musical situations, as the pedal does not have the snap of a traditional pedal so it will not produce intense volume. Also, to get the most out of it you will need a new beater, as the flat pancake head takes away all the attack, especially when playing on a 20" or smaller bass drum. If playing in a situation where high volume is necessary a solid material beater will get what you need from the pedal. Changing out the beater is incredibly easy with this pedal and doesn't even require a tuning key.

Crazy Pedal

I like to check out new products in the drum world so I thought I'd give this pedal try. Right out of the box it seemed pretty large. I attempted to attach it to my Roland kick pad on my electronic kit. It would not fit due to the way it was contoured on the bottom, it's made for an acoustic kick drum. I put it on my acoustic kit and began to play. I didn't care for the way it put me a few inches further from my kit, the pedal is longer due to the catapult system. The beater on this thing was also huge, it's about the size of a small pancake. The quality seemed to be good, I think Gibraltar makes quality products. For me this pedal had an awkward feel that puts the drummer sitting back too far from the kit. It’s a great concept but I don’t think that I would be very practical for most drummers. I ended up sending mine back for an exchange. I'll be sticking with DW for my pedals.

I have seen this pedal at my local music store in town. When i saw it i thought it was another cheap pedal, but when I saw the name Gibraltar I thought otherwise. I tried this pedal out on a pearl export kit and I was impressed. Not only does it look good but it is faster than your own foot!My pdp double pedal isn't as fast as this single pedal! I would prefer this pedal to anyone that does not have much cash. Good luck.
