BluesBreaker

I recently installed one of these in the neck position my my Agile LP. WOW!! these pickups spew vintage tones from another era. I was able to get really good Clapton BluesBreakers era sounds, as well as good Cream and Zep tones. Put one of these in the neck and pop a 57 Classic+ in the bridge and you'll be set for life. Good for blues, classic rock and jazz. Metal heads think twice.

This came stock in the neck position of my Gibson Les Paul Classic Custom (a limited run of Les Pauls in 2007), along with a '57 Classic Plus in the bridge, and the sound is simply AMAZING! Go buy one and put in the neck position!

Great Classic Pickup

First off let me say that just like you, I too have felt pressure to put some super hot distortion factory humbucker in my Gibson. In fact, I had to secretly go behind the backs of my guitar buddies when purchasing and installing these in my new Gibson SG special. I decided to actually get online and review a product from tonight's practice. We had a personnel issue in our band which resulted in me cramming a 16 song set into a week's worth of rehearsal on my SG ( I was going to be playing drums). Not only does the other guitarist LOVE my tone but I was even surprised at the tone when I couldn't use the old tube amp. I practiced out of a little fender solid state combo tonight and it sounded great. These pickups are awesome when paired with the SG. They have such a rockin tone when played through the tube (clean and distorted). Please do your tone a favor and pick up the 57's!

Good upgrade

I recently put one of these in my Epiphone Les Paul Limited Edition. The sound upgrade is very noticeable. I can easily hear sounds come through my gear that I never heard through the stock pickups. There is an overall smoothness and balance that was not present before. It sounds great both clean and with distortion, and I never found a clean sound I liked previously.

A note for installation - Every guide I read mentioned that there is simply a ground wire and a lead wire and you should push back the mesh wire casing to reveal the ground wire. The ground wire actually IS the mesh casing. You peal it back and twist it into a wire yourself which is then soldered to the top of the pot. This was not intuitive for a novice and I did away with a good amount of the mesh casing before realizing what it was. Otherwise installation was relatively easy.

Still Rockin' After All These Years

Bought an Epi G-400 on eBay. Did a fret level and dress then replaced the Epi PUPs with 57 Classics. This setup will beat any Gibson SG out of the box considering the cost. The original PUPs are OK if you run through an emulator but if you run straight to an amp the 57 Classics are the benchmark. The sound will make you a believer. If you want a hotter PU you can buy the Plus but you can't improve on perfection! I guarantee, money spent on 57 Classics is well invested.
