I didn't know what kind of sound to expect when I bought these strings because I had never used pure nickle before. Slapped them on my LP and they sound terrific (like all gibson strings). They have a really dark, mellow, chimmy kind of sound. I like them a lot. I gave it a 4.0 for quality though cause I was trying to tune my high-e a full step up and the ball end of the string broke off. Oh well, I'm buying em again.

I've gone through about 3 sets of these this year. I like em'. They aren't the best playing strings due to the gauge of them, but they sound pretty good, and they will get your hand in good shape if you decide to use a smaller gauge later on. They have a really thick meaty tone that works good for blues and rock, and leads up high sound pretty good through them. They aren't super sharp sounding, so they might not make the best metal strings. The vacuum-packedness makes a difference I think, as I've never had one break on my while I was just stringing up, like I've had happen with Power Slinkies.

I have an Epiphone '56 Gold Top, and I used to think that I was getting the best tone out of it with Power Slinkys, but I was getting tired of strings already being slightly corroded when I took them out of the package. I began looking for a new string, I almost bought some stainless steel Power Slinkys hoping they'd actually be stainless, but then I saw that these strings were vacuum packed. That was the main selling point for me. I ordered six sets of them and hoped they'd be good. When I finally got them I changed my strings and started playing along with my Jimmy Eat World DVD. The tone was absolutely amazing, they made my Epiphone sound as good as the Gibsons that the band was using. Not only that, but I was happy to see that none of the plain strings had any corrosion on them, and the sixth string is slightly thicker than in the Power Slinky set, making my drop D tuning sound alot better. When it comes to strings, I won't settle for anything less than Gibsons from now on.

I love these strings. Excellent for jazz/blues on a gibson hollow-body (I play an ES137). Good tone, smooth feel. Good idea to use Gibson string cleaner/lubricant to keep them in good playing condition longer.

Put the strings on my $99. special and what a difference. I could not believe it was the same guitar. Made it sound like a much higher priced guitar. Buying more for my other guitar.
