Warm, round tone

I bought this speaker as a replacement for my 1964 Ampeg Jet (J-12D). It's a simple amp with a volume knob and a tone knob, which allows a speaker to be itself. Through a stratocaster, this speaker and amp combination offers a really nice clean singing tone, with more bottom-end than you would expect. In fact, I was expecting this speaker to be too bright and harsh based on the other reviews, but was pleasantly surprised how the lower frequencies in the amp came to life through this speaker. The heavy mids are the most present voice in this speaker, blurring individual notes together (think Jimi Hendrix's "Red House" or Led Zeppelin's version of "I Can't Quit You Baby")and really smoothing out chords. It is incredibly boomy, with a good amount of 3-D presence. The highs just aren't the most pronounced part of this speaker, which is not to say that it isn't capable of highs. I ran it through an equalizer and was able to produce a really nice boosted treble/cut mids lead tone through it... I admit, I opted for this speaker rather than the P12 (AlNiCo version) because of price, but after trying it out I have to say I wouldn't do a swap until it fails me. This thing is stable when the amp is cranked and has a nice amount of punch, though not ideal for that "listen to me play sixteenth notes for 30 minutes because I'm awesome" sort of player. This speaker is for a subtle player with a slow hand who really cares about the voicing and tone of a lick. Great for thick slide tones, smokey blues, and warm jazz riffs. A warm, round, smooth tone. Enjoy!

I built a '57 Fender Deluxe clone amp and used a C12N instead of a low watt AlNiCo style speaker. It has a nice range from lows to highs and has a forceful midrange. Great for rock. Depending on tastes it may be too bright or harsh for clean stuff, unless you like some brighter twang. I like it a lot for clean though. Break-in time is not too long warm up the sound a bit. I have several Jensens, including an AlNiCo P15N (a great speaker) and P10R, and a ceramic C10R, as well as their lightweight neodymium Neo12-100.

Not for rockin'

I've had a pair of these speakers in my Fender Hot Rod Deville 212 for several years. During that time I have at no point been satisfied with the tone coming out of these speakers. They won't get you any kind of warmth. Every note I played on every setting I tried felt like I was using an ice-pick.
Also, these speakers break up incredibly quickly, so using the clean channel is pretty pointless-- basically, your tone is never completely clean. Using overdrive or distortion is depressing; these speakers can't handle any bass at all. They flub and fart the bass notes rather than punching.
Trying to boost the midrange produces a "quacky" sound, it doesn't matter if you're using single-coil or humbucking pickups; Quack quack quack.
I will note that I took one of these out of my Deville and switched it with the eminence texas heat in my blues junior recently. In the blues junior ( a 15 watt tube amp) this speaker is decent. All the negative things are lessened. But the texas heat sounded better, and I plan to replace the other speaker in my DeVille with another Texas Heat ASAP.
In conclusion, if you play rock, don't touch these speakers with a ten-foot pole. If you play country or blues with scooped bass, this speaker is useable, but there's better speakers for those styles in the same price. Please realize that I have hundreds of hours of playing time using these speakers, so my conclusion about the jensen C12N speaker is not fore-gone.

I bought these to replace the speakers in my 1976 fender twin silverface, and its sounds completely different. These speakers gave it a very crisp tone and actually made it louder. With the old speakers, I could turn it to 10 and 10, and it would be extremely loud, but I wasn't worried. then when i put these speakers in, i can't turn it past 7 and 7 without it feeling too loud. And thats without distortion. I recomend these speakers to anyone who wants to replace the speakers in their twin, or any tube amp that the specs would fits for. If you're replacing speakers for a transistor amp, i'd just wait and get an old tube amp before i bought speakers. i just can't even describe the tone. also, if anyone's wondering, these speakers are made in Italy. i was expecting them to be made in England, but i saw on the package and on thes peaker that they were made in Italy. it really doesn't make a difference, they're still very well crafted.

I own an original 65 twin and have been using the original speakers for 20+ years. I have noticed over the past 4-5 years the tone has really diminished. I have since had the speakers reconed and while waiting purchased two C12N'S, WOW, The old girl really came back to life and then some! If you are not sure about purchasing these, you need not be. I play in a classic rock band and also freelance and record country music along with blues and the amp sounds excellent in all types of music. The price is what floored me! Don't hesitate.
