i have a crate gx-15r i bought in 98. the speaker was so wore out from trying to play with the big boys; i finally got a cr8 25w 8". although i dont try to play it like that no more, i wanted a practice amp that sounded good. the new speaker brought out sounds and articulation the original never had. a double bend ive had trouble with pulls right up now(where ive tried raising the action on my g string with a slight improvement). there is lots of ways to improve your sound but if your on a budget like me its worth it. it makes me wish i still had my triump-65.

I am now a believer in replacement speakers! While doing research on amps, I noticed many enterprising individuals getting great results when they replaced their OEM speaker with a quality aftermarket. Well, I replaced the original speaker in my Fender VibroChamp XD with a Jensen C8R 25 Watt speaker. The change was dramatic. Power chords were more alive and jazz lines rang out. I felt like I was in a cathedral! I could now hear some of the notes that sounded muted before. This was especially notable when I roll of the volume and tone controls on my guitar to plaly jazz. I thought something was wrong with my guitar. It was just that the speaker was not able to articulate the notes. I will be replacing the speakers in my other amps now. I will probably stick with Jensen since this was such a success. I was disappointed in the amp until this change, now I am thoroughly satisfied.

This review may not be completely fair, as it's done in combo with a Jensen c12n in the same cab. I build my own cabs and decided I'd try an 8" and 12" in the same cab. Good choice. These speaks complement each other quite nicely. Played thru my Epi Triggerman 100 head I get excellent tone from Hi to Low with a fat, greasy midrange and crystal clarity when playing clean. The little 8" seems to handle more than it's rated watts and breaks up nicely only when pushed rather hard. Again, this is in an amp with another speaker, but it tells me if you want to upgrade your 8 incher or use this as a complement with another speak, it's a good choice.

Holy Cow! This C8R speaker just made my wimpy little 15 watt Crate practice amp into a MONSTER! I got lots more volume and no more distortion when I crank it up. And I also found tone I didn't know was there! Why didn't they build it this way to begin with! Do yourself a favor and buy one of these. You might be tempted to mothball your half-stack!
