Right-facing On Snare

The Korg Beatlab Digital Metronome is the perfect practice companion for practicing and perfecting many rhythms and styles. You may select one of the included 39 basic rudiments or create your own. Beatlab plays the tempo and flashes its 2 colored LEDs to help you feel the beat. The red light indicates the strong beat/left hand while the green light indicates the weak beat/right hand. The extra-loud volume makes it easy to hear what's going on even if you're wearing headphones. You can program up to 9 types of rhythm. The large backlit programming screen lets you visually monitor everything even in dark spaces.

Get compliments on your rudiments

BeatLab's Training mode is chock full of a multitude of patterns that will help you practice your snare drum rudiments. 39 patterns of the well-known standard rudiments such as roll, paradiddle, flam, and ruff are built-in, so it's easy to practice your snare drum or marching band basics. BeatLab includes cues that help you know which hand's turn it is. When it's time for your right hand to play, you'll hear the right-hand sound and see the green LED light. When it's your left hand's turn, you'll hear the left-hand sound and see the red LED light. Plus, you can choose whether the pattern starts on the right or left hand.

Create your own ideal practice patterns

BeatLab isn't just great for drummers. All players will find it indispensable for brushing up on their performance technique. For just the right feel, try out BeatLab's Program mode. Use it to build your own simple or complex practice patterns. You can combine up to 9 types of rhythm and accent at a beat or tempo that you specify. Use quarter notes, eighth notes, sixteenth notes, as well as triplets. You can even choose 5 to 9 strikes per beat. Adjust the rhythm and accent volume using BeatLab's 5 sliders to create an original pattern that's just right for you. BeatLab can store 24 programs in internal memory. There's also a Chain mode that will memorize eight chains, each containing up to 16 programmed patterns. You can also make the tempo speed up or slow down gradually, or switch the rhythm between eighth notes, triplets, and sixteenth notes while you practice. Tap Tempo function

The Tap Tempo function lets you specify the tempo simply by striking the Tap key. Use the up/down keys to make detailed adjustments to the tempo.

Designed for easy operation and great visibility

BeatLab is designed for quick and convenient access to the functions you need. Its controls include independent keys for each mode, convenient sliders for adjusting the volume of each rhythm sound, numeric keys for setting the tempo as a numeric value, up/down keys, and parameter select keys conveniently placed below the display for selecting the parameters shown in the display. The display is backlit for easy visibility even in dim locations. Battery power or AC adapter

Good start, but not quite there

This product is not a bad product. In fact, its features are great. I'm not thrilled with the sample though. Instead of being a precise sample as you'd find on a Korg Triton sequencer's click track, it is instead a "blip" that you'd hear off a 555 IC timer (the kind I used to mess around with in electronics class in high school). As a result it sounds incredibly muddy, and ten times worse if you put headphones on. It's a shame Korg ruined it by using a twenty cent chip when they could've spent just a few dollars and had a quality sample.

The Korg Beatlab Metronome is great for practicing rudiments-there's a bunch on there and the "left" and "right" lights are a big help. But, for programming, it only has sixteen bars of music per chain so if you want to use it to help at band practice or recording to keep everyone in time, you may want to look at a metronome with more memory.

Better than the Tama Rhythm Watch

Let me start off my saying that if you are just looking for a very basic click to help you keep the beat go with the Rhythm Watch but if you are looking for something that will give you a tun of sub-divisions this is what you need. It is very loud and with headphones on it is piercing loud and cuts above everything. The rudiment feature is also a nice touch that the Rhythm Watch does not have.
