Mounted Coil

New TriAxial Dynamic Technology allows the LR Baggs M1 Soundhole Pickup to respond to the guitar's string and body vibrations, redefining what is possible from a soundhole pickup.

The L.R. Baggs M-1 is a humbucking pickup with a twist. In a common stacked humbucker, the second, lower coil cancels hum, but doesn't contribute anything positive to the sound. In fact, it can muddy the sound of the main coil. The M1 unlocks the second coil. This allows it to make a positive sonic contribution while maintaining the pure open sound of a single coil - but without the hum.

The hum-canceling coil is suspended under the main coil by a tuned support that allows it to move in 3 dimensions. The primary coil moves with the guitar top and creates a body signal in the suspended secondary coil. This brings the M1 to life, with string and body sound all in one. It's like having a dual pickup system in your soundhole. The support is carefully tuned to control motion in all 3 dimensions. This allows you to selectively add the presence and realism from the body signal while suppressing runaway feedback.

Gold-plated 1/8" jack. The L.R. Baggs M1 Pickup includes a prewired strapjack harness and a 12' Mogami audiophile-grade cable.

I recently installed this in my Martin OM-21 and absolutely love it. Its small enough that it doesn't hinder the tone of the guitar too much (when playing it unplugged), and definitely picks up the top vibes. It sounds exceptional through my Fishman Loudbox and through a PA - though a preamp does help too). A great pickup from an outstanding company.

Baggs Delivers

This was reasonably simple to install on my Taylor 655-12 and delivers the sound I was hoping to find. Bass is great with clear treble, yet retains a good natural sound. I have a Fishman Rare Earth installed on my Breedlove SJ20-12 which provides a great sound, yet less function. For the extra dollars I would purchase the LR Baggs active.

This thing is great, It keeps the quality of the sound and is quality made. The only two thing I don't like about the M1 is that is very difficult to install. I own a seagull and the walls of the guitar are very thick, making it almost impossible to install. I had to unscrew the input cords cap to make enough room to even fit halfway through the hole. Also You need a pre- amp to even want to try effects. If you have a thick side-walled guitar or plan to use effects, I would not recommend this to you, otherwise its great!

I've installed this pickup on my Taylor GA3-12. The word is love, folks. With no EQ, its not dampening the sound of the guitar unplugged significantly, and when I amp it, I'm able to get the warmest, hum-free sound I could ever hope for. Personally, I prefer this to the Taylor Expression System, because I very much like the option of removing it completely. In the future, I'll be dropping these into any other acoustic I buy.

I ordered this pickup and just received it a couple days ago, and tried it out on an old crate amp, and it sounded pretty good. Then I tried it in a Yamaha sound system, and it was awesome!! It's got a pure, clean sound to it. It sounds like you're miking the guitar. I highly recommend this pickup.
