The Lace Sensor Emerald is a single coil guitar pickup that delivers crisp top end and bell-like tone without noise. Built by Lace since 1985, the Sensor pickup was used exclusively by Fender until 1996. These Lace pickups have the same specifications with the same great tone. Emerald Lace Sensor pickups have that Texas-inspired tone without the noise associated with single coils. The Lace Sensor Emerald guitar pickup has a unique radiant Field Barrier system that surrounds both the coil and magnets, reducing annoying 60-cycle hum. Patented Lace Micro Combs replace traditional bobbins, yielding a wider tonal range and better string balance than traditional guitar pickups.

Unlike ordinary pickups, the Lace Emerald generates 36 separate magnetic "sensing" fields that, in the areas where they contact the string, "read" the strings' vibration. (Regular pickups only generate anywhere from 4 to 12 fields).

The Lace Sensor Emerald also has Radiant Field Barriers: metal slides that frame the inner core of the Sensors and perform two functions. The first is to shield the Sensor from the outside noise and 60-cycle hum. The second is to produce broader, yet more concentrated, umbrellas of sensing field than standard magnetic pickups.

Less Noise, More Harmonics
As compared to standard pickups, it reads a greater physical area of the string, while picking up less outside interference. This makes the signal-to-noise ratio nothing short of phenomenal for a single coil system. Also, a wider range of harmonic content is read by the Sensor, delivering a more complex tonal response.

Increased Sustain, Truer Pitch
Since it operates so efficiently, Lace Sensors can utilize much lower energy magnets than ordinary guitar pickups, and this in turn brings about a whole new realm of properties. In regular pickups, the magnetic fields are so strong they physically dampen, or drag on, the strings' vibration, reducing sustain and actually changing the pitch. But in the Lace Sensor Emerald, string dampening is virtually nonexistent. This means your sustain is increased dramatically while the string holds its true pitch for the duration of the note.

The Holy Saviour of Noisefree Single Coil Pickups

I used to hate single coil pickups. Even after I got used to the thinner sound there's still the noise. Eventually I discovered Lace. I'd used Lace Sensors before this and was impressed. So, when it was time to update the pickups on my Fender Jag-Stang after 10 years of use, I was excited to hear Lace had created a Sensor Emerald, which re-creates, without noise, the sound of Fender's Texas Special single-coil. And do that it does. The sound is down-right addictive and no noise. I use it in conjunction with a Seymour Duncan JB with coil-tap and it easily cleans up the sound of the JB and makes for a dynamic duo of sound. I rarely used to use the stock single-coil without using the humbucker, and now it's the other way around. It has the Stevie Ray Vaughn sound with a little added treble for clarity, clean tones sounds great and drive/distortion tones sound good too. I highly endorse this pickup it's wonderful and I'm installing two more into my G&L S-500 (also known as G&L's "Strat") because of it.
