Precarious and unwieldy

I have two Line6 Variax 705 basses that I use in my band. I actually have three of these power supplies - one came with each of my basses, and one came with my Line6 Bass POD xt Live.

Here's my setup:

2x Line6 Variax 705s --> Line6 Power Supply/DI --> Line6 Bass POD xt Live --> Ampeg SVP1600 power amp --> Phil Jones 8T / Ampeg SVT-410 HLF

I love my Variax basses' tone, and they are very playable. The only thing I can't stand is this stupid little power supply. It's solidly built, but it just doesn't feel road-worthy. I'm afraid that I'm going to step on that little tiny cord and rip it right out of the unit. These might be great in a studio, but I definitely would not trust them on a tour. You can use batteries in the bass, but 6 AAs only last 10 hours, and a 9v lasts 2 hours. If Line6 could figure out a more practical way to power their stuff, I'd be all over it. I know that you can use an "XLR" (actually RJ45) cable to power the unit from the Bass Pod xt Live, but then you can't run into a different amp. Overall, these things come across as dinky and annoying, but necessary. Argh... I hope that the next generation Variaxes will have a better system.

If you own a dl4 then the power adapter is a must. I've had the dl4 for almost a year and I've probably spent close to $60 if not more on batteries. My pedal lost power in the middle of a show and crazy riots soon followed thereafter. Don't make the same mistake.
