An assessment of the Musician's Gear light gauge strings: I have been using D'Addario phosphor bronze light gauge EJ16 strings for years. My Tacoma JR55 jumbo six-string sounded a bit too dark, so I tried these. I was not impressed, and immediately went back to the D'Addario strings. The Musician's Gear strings seemed to lack sustain and tone. I had better success, incidentally, in using the brass tone pins sold through Musiciansfriend... the bridge pins that hold the strings in the bridge. These actually did brighten up the sound just a bit, as well as increase sustain. If I try other strings, I might try Gibson brand; their light gauge banjo strings are awesome. Perhaps they have good guitar strings too...

I got these strings because I needed a set for my acoustic guitar and i thought these were a nice price. Unfortunately, while these strings look very nice, they are heavy, and the tone is very bright. If you're looking for a good set of strings, pay a couple dollars extra and get a nice set of D'addrios XL.

GREAT string, but I usually use 010's. Figured the price was so good, I'll give 12s a try. Too heavy, hurt my fingers after extended playing, but I have yet to saee 010s at this price.

I am a disabled/retired picker and I like to find bargains when it comes to buying my musical supplies. I live near Green Bay WI, and there are tons of music suppliy stores here. But, I do 99.9% of my shopping right here! These strings are an incredible value. Crisp and very durable. They retain theur brightness and tone as well as any higher priced strings. I even use Musicians Gear strings on my '77 Rickenbacker!

I use a Yamaha FG720SCA. I figured I would give these strings a shot since they were on sale and I was purchasing an order anyways - kinda like, throw that candy bar on the pile while you're at the checkout in a supermarket. I'm very picky about my strings and I'm a hardcore D'addario and DR user. Almost nothing else goes on my guitar. I got them in the mail and they were very professionally packaged, and came in a plastic sealed envelope. I pulled them out and noticed the nice fiery bronze tinge to them. I decided to put them on since my strings were almost shot. Put them on, tuned them up and struck an open E chord. I was bewildered. Nice, tight lows, clear open highs and a punchy yet defined midrange. 'Wow', I thought. If I can get strings like this for a 1/3 of the price that I pay for most others, I'm spent. A month and a half later, they're still going strong. Haven't broke one and they still have about 40% life left.

However to pique my curiosity I decided to change the strings back to D'Addario EJ16s. The Musicians' Gear sounded better, clearer, and had more punch. The D'addarios sound dry in comparison. Once again I'm stunned. Great job here.
