I own several of these to mount smaller toms (none bigger than 12"). I prefer them over RIMS mounts, because they are much simpler to install and you can also position your toms much closer together than with RIMS (these are not nearly as bulky as RIMS). However, I found that even though I was getting a great, singing tone from my drum while holding it with my fingers under the top rim, when I mounted it on a Pearl ISS Mount and Pearl arm, it sounded much more choked. After being mystified for awhile, I finally found the cause of this: The flat, top part of the mount (that the rim hooks screw in to) rests on the underside of the hoop and head when installed (with hooks tightened down on the rim) for more support. However, this forces that part of the head (that the mount is pushing against underneath) upwards, thus choking that part of the head (and changing the tuning/pitch slightly as well). I found that by cutting off a little bit of that flat part so that it does NOT touch the underneath of the rim/head when installed makes all the difference in resonance, with no less support of the drum. This is a fairly easy fix if you have the right tools, but Pearl should re-design around this flaw in the future.

These are the worst for your tom hoops. These came stock with my Pearl vision series and I had to re-tune constantly because the lugs would come loose from the points where the mounts were at. It's not a good idea to hang all the weight from one point on the hoop. I imagine it would also warp it over time and give you problems tuning in the future. The best option for free resonance and better tunings would be the optimounts. Mine are in the mail

I have tried this device on different sets and I'm going to get it for mine. I never knew it could be bought like this. It lets the shell of the drum "hover" giving it better tone and quality. Also, playing with these ISS mounts gives a better feel when you hit the drum.

This is a great product from Pearl. It clamps on to the rim of the drum and holds it in place. Very simple yet affective. And it can hold all the weight that you can put on it. Currently I am using 2 of them to hold 13" and 16" toms and they are working perfectly. It just kinda feels like the drums are just floating in air. The best part is that they don't kill the resonance. They came with my Pear Export kit and the thing that surprised me is that they would put these on the beginner kits as well as the high end kits. overall this is an excellent product made by an excellent company.
