Looking for an electronic version of a chord book I found this is not it. It is neight quality made nor does it work better than a book. Battery cover is indeed a very poor design and unless th elight is good in the room, it's hard to see. I returned it after two days and like another reviewer, will wait for the next generation or two.

I ordered this item back in early April. Out of the box it didn't work. I exchanged it for another unit and again, out of the box, it didn't work. I sent the second unit back for a refund. I notified Planet Waves and they were aware of a battery issue with the first production. Hopefully the got it fixed. I'll hold off purchasing a third until better reviews come in or the competition comes up with a workable unit.

I purchased this unit after checking a variety of websites and reviews. After playing with this unit for a few days I have two crticisms. First the ad pictures make this unit appear to by a blue backlight LCD screen (like an indiglo watch). This is false. It is standard 1" x 1.5" green LCD and not backlit. Secondly, the inside cover of the box states "Hanheld, touch-scree guitar chord computer". It is not a LCD touch screen. You do not touch the screen to activate any functions. (i.e.: You can not place notes and have the unit identify chords.) Essentially this is a pocket chord dictionary that lets you cycle through chords and their variations. That's right "cycle" through. You must go through a number search steps before you get to the chord pattern you seek. Snarling Dogs version offers 1-step buttons for variations like 7ths & Diminished, etc. Planet Waves should have followed that format. Overall, the unit will fit neatly in the palm of your hand and the rubberized buttons are easy to use and it's easier than lugging around a chord dictionary book. However, I'm looking more for a chord "identifier" not a "dictionary" so I will be returning this unit.

The Planet Wave Chordmaster II battery cover was very hard to remove. I couldn't figure out how to get it to show augmented chords or suspended second chords.
