The Planet Waves Chromatic Headstock Tuner precisely tunes guitars, basses and many other stringed instruments using your instrument's vibrations rather than sound. No direct sound or electronic signal is required. Using an optimally positioned, highly sensitive piezo transducer and backlit LCD display, this chromatic tuner quickly and accurately helps you tune, even in noisy or dimly lit environments where many tuners fail. Calibration The Planet Waves Headstock Tuner defaults to the industry-standard A440 tuning frequency. To adjust the tuner to another setting, simply press the calibrate button on the rear side of the tuner display. With each press of the button, the reference pitch will change in 1Hz increments. Continually press the calibrate button until the pitch you desire shows in the display.

I purchased this tuner for my bass and the first time I showed up to band practice the guitarist asked to borrow it. He fell in love with it. I feel it works well but, when I try to tune the low B on my five string bass it takes a long time for it to respond to the string vibration. I highly reccomend and I am heading out tomorrow to buy one for my wifes guitar.

The LED light makes it easy to tune without concentration (you can catch the green light out of your peripheral vision, which is great if you're in a distracting live gig situation) and the LED is great for low-light situations. Best of all for me: It's very responsive to bass signals. I've had other tuners frustrate me because they don't pick up the low E. This unit adjusts from guitar to bass to baritone with no hiccups. My only negative comment: I've broken two of them in the past 4 months of heavy playing/gigging. Once had the battery cover pop off and lost it. On my new one I put tape over the battery cover just in case. On the second one the clamp broke. Frustrating. But still, here I am ready to buy a third. I love it. Just wish it were sturdier.

The main problem with this tuner is the hingeing mechanism, the spring is large and strong, the plastic hinge is plastic small and weak. One side of the hinge broke as I opened the clamp to gain entry to the battery compartment. And, unfortunately that is what the value of the tuner hinges upon. If you buy one be prepared to devise some other method of affixing the tuner to the guitar, because the flimsy hinge will fail, maybe not as soon as mine did, but someday.

Just received this new tuner... had to replace one that died. And I have to say it is the most sensitive clip-on tuner I have used to date. It mounts securely and accurately picks up all of the strings on my less-than-sensitive headstock (other clip on tuners didn't work on it). It is easy to read and small enough to fit in my pocket. It's a great product for the price!
