The Desktop True-Strobe Tuner from Planet Waves is durable, reliable and spans virtually all tuning applications. The True Strobe or "Tru-Strobe" instrument tuner is extremely accurate—+/- .1 cent—and sensitive. Use built-in microphone or 1/4" input/output.

The purest input tones yield the best results. Here's how to achieve optimal tuning:

  • Pluck the string with a light to moderate stroke. Strings will usually go slightly sharp right after the initial attack. Excessive or heavy plucking of the string will increase this effect. Give the string a second to "settle" before tuning.
  • Pluck the string with the flesh of your thumb. This will yield less harmonic information for the tuner to analyze then using a pick.
  • Turn the tone knob of the instrument down. This again will roll off high-end harmonic details and input a more fundamental tone.
  • Lower the volume of the guitar 30% to 50%. This will usually yield less harmonic detail and input gain.
  • While coarse tuning look at the entire display for movement. When the action of the LED's begin slowing to a halt, look at the leading LED for movement and continue to tune until the LED stops in place.
  • Planet Waves PW-CT-07 Desktop True Strobe Tuner Features:

got this when my korg pitch black stopped working. this planet waves tuner works perfect. the strobe takes a few minutes to get used to but once you do you'll be in perfect tune. works great for a 5 string bass. it actually reads the low b unlike other tuners. its built really solid too. price is great, you won't find a strobe tuner this cheap. highly reccomended.

This tuner is solid. When I saw the pictures I thought the case was plastic, but it is a heavy metal case. Another great thing about this tuner is that it has a built in mic so you can tune acoustic instruments as well. The only reason I gave it a little lower rating on features is because some people might be turned off by the fact that it doesn't do drop tunings (but its not a huge problem since its chromatic). This tuner is accurate so its equally at home on stage or in the studio.

love this tuner. more accurate then my sweep tuners. when they read at zero , the strobe will still indicate slightly flat or sharp. like the blue color, didn't buy the a/c cord but prefer the portability. nothing better for the price. no yearly service or calibration needed as with most strobe tuners. good weight. have to wipe off finger prints , sweat, etc. to protect the finish. use it on a artist grand piano , seven footer, with excellent results. excellent investment if serious about tuning.

with good weight. have to polish it so skin oil and sweat do not ruin the finish. best thing is no need for

It seems that Planet Waves doesn't understand the idea of "silent" tuning. Even though I've run this from a tuner out jack with no output cable back into anything, there's still a little buzzing noise when the strobe wheel spins. Very strange, but otherwise it does the job.

True Strobe Desktop

This is an excellent tuner. The original battery that comes in these is not enough to power properly (Low Battery Ind). I replaced the battery and used it for the first time. It is very easy to use and extremely accurate. It is heavy enough so it will not fall off whatever it is sitting on. Mine does not have blue lights like the package indicates but has red LEDs'. I have had many tuners and this is the best I have owned. I did not want a Peterson because of the cost. This is easy to use and the display will work well on stage. It is compact. A well designed product. It also works well on my 5 string bass.
