this is the best tuner I've owned, and I've had several, and yes you need to use a separate power supply but those with years of experience know that daisy chaining pedals can mess up the effects whether it be humming or whatever. bottom line is this is a good buy

Bought this pedal after there were a few reviews of it here already. People mentioned the noise it makes in bypass mode. Thought maybe this was a problem with the first batch and they corrected it. Wanted the true bypass. Mine hums also in bypass. It behaves just like my boss RC20xl did. It reacts with other pedals through the power supply. If you use a battery, you won't have a problem. If you use a good power supply, you won't have a problem. If you daisy chain, you will need to use a battery or have a separate power supply for this pedal. Lasts a long time if you remember to unplug it. I would use it first in the chain and remember to unplug my guitar after. I believe it's really true bypass because it will pass a signal with no power supply or battery in bypass mode. However it may affect the signal if you use it before something sensitive like fuzz or envelope filter which both want to be first in the chain. Now I have a Voodoo Labs 2 so I have the pedal at the end of the chain. I run it off the Voodoo with no problem. I think DC Brick may not have actual isolated outlets. The humming is a major flaw of the product but the price is right now. I bought it when it was more. Also, only use one output at a time. Using this as a signal splitter will not work properly. When you engage the second signal, the first gets noticably degraded. This is probably normal and I think it works fine if you choose one output or the other. Other than the bypass humming issue which is annoying, the pedal works fine for me.

Broken Pedal = Broken Heart

I was looking at purchasing the Boss TU-2 when my local shop convinced me to pick up this new "INCREDIBLE" tuner. I was sold on the rugged construction of this pedal... Planet Waves pulled a quick one with this product. Exterior is built like a tank- hinge for the stomp pad is made of plastic. When moving my pedal board it fell (maybe a foot) and it snapped (like a slim jim) and wouldn't work. As others mentioned there is a noticible hum that you cant get rid of. The concept is good and with some refinements it could become a classic. But until then... look elsewhere.

Bought because it was recommended to me. I liked it so a bought one for our rhythm guitar player. When it arrived it didn't work. Of course we were 11 days out from an important job and needed the tuner. I emailed Planet Waves and mentioned my dismay. Immediately heard back and was told they were sending a replacement and that I would have it before the job! Well, it arrived with 4 days to spare and it worked perfectly. I have heard good things about Planet Waves customer service, but man...this alone has made me a returning customer. You just don't get that kind of service anymore, so in support of it, I am a Planet Waves customer!

Great benefits but reliability issues

I can attest to the great grouping of features on this tuner, I have used it religiously for a little over a year. The lights operate in a very intuitive fashion allowing you to quickly correct slightly sharp or flat notes, it is highly accurate(so much so that I have been using it for intonations and setups), and small and hefty which makes it a good fit in most floor setups. The primary problems I have encountered are a muted emi humming from the led's in the display when tuning in the silent mode, and a problem with signal cutout. The noises are annoying, however in any room with ambient sounds they are barely noticeable, however the internal issues are greater than I had imagined. Recently mine has started cutting out on me, causing volume dropouts when not engaged, or crackling and popping. I have not taken the time to take the pedal apart and track the problem down, but since I took the pedal out of my chain I haven't had the issues. I was concerned it might be a transformer or contact issue in my amp. The moral story is to be smart with your purchases. The switch, which is true bypass, is a rare breed which will make it more expensive to fix too. The only reason I left this review was to make sure you, as buyers, know the potential issues with the pedal. BTW the humming isn't noticeable when using a battery, or at least it is quieter.
