Good Bag, but it is a bag after all

I bought this bag to replace a bag from another company that simply was not up to the task. I purchased my bag in November of 2007, and it has been moderately used since then - as an example, I use it twice, once for rehearsal, once for the gig, once ever two weeks. (Does that make sense?)

I noticed recently that the end of the bag has started to come apart at the seam, and one of the skids on the bottom came apart a couple of months ago. This could be because I do a lot of stairs with this bag - my practice area is in my basement and I have to pull the bag up onto a stage.

I think that for a bag, it's about as durable as you can expect. Having said that, nylon fabric and light molded plastic skids are only going to hold up so well when you have 100 pounds of gear in there. I've put a repair on the end of the bag where the bag opened up by stitching it up with some waxed dacron bow string, but when this bag can no longer be repaired, I'll likely "graduate" to a hard shell case on wheels.

I have a newer vesion of this bag. The bag has a stiff heavy guage plastic support built right into the bag so no more floppy bag. Huge accessory pocket on the side is a plus. The straps are pretty heavy duty and the padded handle is a nice touch. The 2 handles on the ends are rubber which fit the hand, and the rubbe wheels roll smooth on any surface. Holds quite a bit of hardware.

I was really excited when the bag arrived at my house but was terribly disappointed when I pulled it out of the box to find that the bottom of the bag wasn't stiff enough to support it's own weight! The added weight of my hardware made the bottom of the bag drag on the ground because it bends in the middle. Awkward and useless! I expected top notch quality from Protection Racket. Apparently they don't test the products they sell! I modified it by drilling out the rivets from the bottom runners and bolted in a half inch piece of plywood to make it stiff enough to work like it should have in the first place. Next modification will be to move the non-wheel side handle from the top of the bag to the bottom so I can lift it high enough to walk without it tripping me up. Even though I'm almost 6' tall the extra leg room is necessary.

I've owned it for more than a year now. It is definitely pricey, and I almost bought a cheaper one, but this is worth every penny and more. Very durable, plenty of room and the material is industrial thick so the sides don't collapse (like cheap bags), which makes it much easier to put hardware into it. And the wheels are excellent. Kudos to Protection Racket.

I recently purchased the 38 inch bag. I gig 3-4 times per month. So far, this has been an excellent bag. It holds a lot of hardware. It deeper than I expected. Wheels work great. No more haevy bag to carry. Stands up on it's own when fully loaded. I should have bought this a long time ago. Great price too. J.P.
