Introduced in 1968, CONTROLLED SOUND heads are single-ply Ambassador-weight heads with a 5 mil thick black or clear dot in the center of the head. This combination offers a controlled, centered sound without undesirable overtones.

These dual-zone heads have a combination of medium and heavy-duty drumhead characteristics. The outer area of the head's playing surface offers a midrange tone and sensitivity while the laminated center dot eliminates high frequency overtones and adds durability and tonal focus to meet the demands of heavier hitters.

I bought this head about a year ago for my piccolo snare and i'm completely pleased with it. I tensioned the crap out of it and didn't add and dampening on it so i'd have that nice overtone and it has a loud POP! I used the piccolo as my main snare for a while but I decided to go with the RHCP snare sound. No complaints.

Wow is all I can say about these heads. I bought a friends used Rockstar Set a few months ago, and these heads were on the toms since he got it, about 8 years ago. They still sound great, and as a very active drummer, and a heavy hitter, these things can take a beating! Drum heads that stay true for years and don't easily dent...who could ask for more?

I would have to agree with an earlier reviewer that these things on the snare are just fantastic. I was always a coated emperor guy, but decided to try the clear cs, and man, its awesome. It's really cool that somehow these heads fatten up the sound, but don't choke the drum. It gives you a nice "woody" tone, but keeps the GOOD overtones. They sound almost totally different than any other head. They make the drums full and round sounding. I highly recommend this head for your snare.

I ordered these at some point long ago, and had mixed feelings about them. They made my toms loud, deep, but I didn't notice any overtones being muffled or anything like that. I bought them because they looked cool, I'd buy em again, but I dont completely like them, unless I put studio rings on em first. good value though.

The best snare sound I ever got was with (believe it or not);. a clear CS!If you play rock, you like a little overtones and have a metal snare drum, this head will take you to rock heaven!Tuned it medium-high on a brass snare (like i did) will project your snare even through loud guitars. If you like projection, pleasant overtones, bright and wet attack, then get this head. It's not expensive and it's durable too if you play with normal sticks( 5a or 5b).
