Introduced in 1968, CONTROLLED SOUND heads are single-ply Ambassador-weight heads with a 5 mil thick black or clear dot in the center of the head. This combination offers a controlled, centered sound without undesirable overtones.

These dual-zone heads have a combination of medium and heavy-duty drumhead characteristics. The outer area of the head's playing surface offers a midrange tone and sensitivity while the laminated center dot eliminates high frequency overtones and adds durability and tonal focus to meet the demands of heavier hitters.

A Decent head

This is a good bass drum head. It has a good sound and punch and it is probably the most durable head of all time (I have had one of these on my bass drum for a very, very long time). BUT, if you are a heavy hitter looking for more of a thud or play a heavier style music, this head might not be for you. This head is punchy but it sounds like a big, loud, and deep over-driven tom (if that makes sense). Good all around head, but probably not for the modern, heavy drummer.

My drum teacher has this head on his vintage slingerland kit with a 20 inch kick drum (that set has no resonant heads-except the snare). I was surprised when there was no overtone on any of the drums since there was no reso heads. The bass wasn't incredible, especially because that old bass pedal stunk. There was a large circle of foam behind the head muffling it, and overall the bass sounded like a pile of papers shuffling around for a fraction of a second. I really didn't like the sound of the bass, or the toms (they had remo ebony pinstipes), the only drum i liked on that set was the snare, only because it was a new steel yamaha snare with a coated ambassador tuned up high. Don't bother getting this head, it's a good price, but not worth it. If your looking for a great bass sound, go for the evans eq3 on batter and on the reso side as well. I also recomend evans g2 coated for snare and tom batter heads, g1 clears for tom reso, and a hazy 300 for snare side. You will have an overall incredible drum set sound as well as long-lasting durability.

This head is a great sounding studio head! People always talk about how they use muffling on their heads, on this head YOU DONT NEED ANY!!!! It has a good response, good attack and high durability. I highly recomend this head

These heads are amazing! They are exactly what I like in heads, they dampen the sounds of the drum and makes it a perfect tone. These are good if you want to play for metal or hard rock bands cause it will make your toms deeeeppp.

Good value, great brand, but quality isn't the greatest. I have had mine just under 2 days, and it is already showing damage - dents from beater heads.
